Will a 88 4.0 Cherokee block swap in a 97? Casting provisions there for everything to bolt up in my 97? Found a good deal on low mile 88 4.0. Thanks

Yep treat it like a long block swap. You'll need to plug a hole near the back of the head that had the old temp sending unit in it as '97 only uses a sensor in the thermostat housing.

Thanks Salad fast response! Going to get it tomorrow.
Going to tear it down after I get it and install new gaskets, bearings, rings, lifters, cam and Mellings oil pump. Already have horseshoe intake, Ev6 injectors etc.

88 Engine has no knocks or pings but want a fresh build since going through the trouble.

Sounds good!

What happened to your '97?

Default 88 Long Block In 97

Nothing happened yet but does have what I believe to be loose bolts on flexplate at crank. The bolts at torque converter where loose and one hole pretty tore up. The knocking I was getting was less apparent after I removed the bolts and used thread locker but is still there. Maybe even cracked flexplate. Also has 266k on it and want to build a fresh 4.0. Only engines I have ever built are SBC. Have a 4.0 I got a few days ago that #6 piston was in a million pieces that I got complete from a 99 Grand for $66!
Crank is fine only damage was hole in block, scored cylinder wall and bent exhaust valve on #6. Scrapping the block and head and keeping everything else for parts. Really just wanted the horseshoe intake but guy wanted engine gone. My 97 has a great body no rust at all lifted with some other mods. Fresh 4.0 will be icing on cake.

I have this motor I just had built to these specs:

XJ Ask the Question Thread-image-3012149784.jpg

The only thing different on this is I used a Hesco name brand cam instead of Compcam.

It's a bad A motor.

I don't need it anymore. I built it to race but sold my race XJ.

It has 0 miles on it.

What could this motor sale for?

What's it worth?

I'm thinking about out selling it.

On a scale of 1-10, how difficult is it to replace front brakes?

Anything can be easy or hard depending if you have the right tools. I did mines in the street using the stock jacks and hand tools. Id say a 2 where as 10 is the hardest but maybe its an 8 for you

Depends also if you live in a rust belt or love mud. It can be a task but can be done with some pb blaster and swear words

Well just sounds like your flexplate could use replacing rather than the whole engine but hey I'm a fan of swapping in fresh replacements, so go for it!

FYI 99 WJ block isn't a bolt-on into an XJ anyway .
