Any particular reason or do you just like the gaskets better? Wanting to try and do whatever will give me less problems hopefully. I have messed with distributors before but they all had the oring stock. The gasket is just really suspect looking to me as well.

Found out it's a Rough Country adjustable track bar. It's raining out, so climbing under it and checking the mount bolts is going to have to wait. I know the nut in the ball joint part of the track bar is tight, as I did try to tighten it. I think my next plan is to remove the nut and check the hole, and the mount bolts to frame. Thanks.,,,,RR

There are a ton of different demos on YouTube. That's how I tracked down and fixed my prob. Everything was tight on mine too. Mine did the same as this:

Im sure this subject has been hit over and over again, but i need to ask anyways. my neighbor gave me an almost new flowmaster 40 series off of his car and i am thinking about putting it on the cherokee because i still run a stock exhaust set-up. Anyone think I will see any gains out of it mpg's hp's anything.( i do have a throttle body spacer and cowl intake so i figured the exhaust was next)

I agree with Cruiser54. I have a K&N cold air intake, and the Flowmaster super 40, all new plugs and 02 sensors...and I really couldn't tell you if it up'd the hp or torque, but I do have to say that I believe I have gotten a little better mpg's. But idk if that's it. Just prior to installing them, I put in a new battery, new starter, seafoamed the intake (wow, what a black cloud out the back), new alternator, new valve cover gaskets...let's just say I did a lot of work all at once, under the hood and in the undercarriage. So idk if it was one thing or the other. All I know is that I was getting about 220/tank, and now I'm getting between 260 and 275 from full to gas light...

And now I have another chk engine light. Code reads #3 misfire. But I changed the plugs a few months ago when it said that. Someone told me to try a new coil pack, but I came across service bulletin that said something about the wires/wire shielding to the #3 injector...I'm still trying to find the print on it so I can look into it, but I'm hoping that's the trigger for the code...anyone have a clue what I'm referring to?

I had the same problem with my RC track bar. I had to drill the sleeve out where the bolt goes through and use a bigger bolt. Did it this last September and no problems yet from it

There was also an issue with carbon buildup on the valve seats due to weak valve springs. What brand of plugs did you use?

Honestly, I can't remember. I do remember that I scoured the forum and I listened to the general consensus that our XJs don't like a certain brand of plug, and went with the other, more recommended brand...but right now, I can't remember. However, I do keep strict records for every single purchase made for my vehicles in a filing cabinet, but the better half is sleeping and the filing cabinet is in my closet. Really don't want to wake her right now.

Actually, my Cherokee file is in my toolbox. The receipt from NAPA only says, "Copper core, OE." I meant to look the other day when I was tooling around under the hood because I'm considering replacing the coil pack and plugs, thinking the coil pack probably needs replacement anyways...

This?

NUMBER: 18-031-03
GROUP: Vehicle Performance
DATE: Sep. 05, 2003
THIS BULLETIN SUPERSEDES TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 18-027-02, DATED SEPTEMBER 06, 2002, WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED FROM YOUR FILES. THIS IS A COMPLETE REVISION AND NO ASTERISKS HAVE BEEN USED TO HIGHLIGHT REVISIONS.
SUBJECT:
4.0L Rough Engine Idle After Restart Following A Hot Soak

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves the installation of a fuel injector insulator sleeve.
MODELS:
2000-2004 (TJ) Wrangler (Domestic and International Markets)
1999-2004 (WJ) Grand Cherokee (Domestic and International Markets)
2001-2004 (WG) Grand Cherokee (International Market)
2000-2001 (XJ) Jeep Cherokee (Domestic and International Markets)

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 4.0L engine (sales code = ERH)

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Customers may describe a 20 to 30 second rough idle following the restart of a heat soaked engine. This condition may be most noticeable when the engine is restarted following a prior 10 to 20 minute heat soak in hot ambient conditions of approximately 32°C (90°F) or higher. This condition may be consistent with short city stop-and-go driving trips and can be aggravated by the use of fuel with a high ethanol content. Depending upon various conditions a MIL may occur due to DTC P0303 - Cylinder # 3 Misfire.
This condition may be caused by heat from the exhaust manifold that following engine shut down migrates to the area around injector # 3 and causes fuel vapor to form within the injector. This in turn may cause a momentary misfire of cylinder # 3 until the fuel vapor is cleared of injector # 3. The insulator sleeve lowers the injector # 3 temperature to a point below which the fuel will not normally vaporize.
DIAGNOSIS:
1.If vehicle exhibits a rough idle, and if a misfire of cylinder # 3 is observed following a 10 to 20 minute hot soak, perform the Repair Procedure.

PARTS REQUIRED
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1.Cut insulator sleeve, p/n 56028371AA, to make two (2) insulator sleeves about 25-30 mm (1 in.) in length.

Name: wireshield2.gif
Views: 83
Size: 20.5 KB

2.Install one sleeve around injector # 3, with the slit on the upward facing side of the injector. Install the other sleeve with the slit on the downward facing side of the injector.
3.Confirm sleeve is flush to intake manifold surface around injector.
4.Check injector # 3 wire and ensure that the injector is rotated to a 2 o'clock position (from driver's side of vehicle).
POLICY:
Reimbursable within the provisions of the warranty.

Yes Sir, that's exactly the bulletin I was talking about! I have a printed version, but after the gf "cleaned," I can't seem to find anything. I think her idea of cleaning is tossing any papers I have that she doesn't understand, right into the garbage...
