Aw man, I was hoping that a poor connection was causing my xj to randomly hesitate during acceleration. Oh well, gotta keep looking

Ok, I gotcha now. Thanks. It's been like that for as long as I've owned it and never new what it was for.

I used RTV because I have yet to invest in a silicone gasket. I find that RTV really helps the cork one. Silicone will be my next choice some spring (no leaks but I want to do the CCV flute mod).

I wouldn't say they're equally as week, but they both have their failure points. You already know the failure points in the D35. The "A" on the d44a stands for "Aluminum" because that's what the housing is made of. A used one is prone to having problems with becoming very noisy. Also, there's virtually no aftermarket support for it - and no, the D44 parts are not interchangeable with the D44a.

If it's primarily road driven and you're not looking to upgrade anything in the axle, it's not a bad choice honestly. PLUS, it should have LSD in it (the one I had in my v8 WJ did)... so that's a slight bonus.

If you're planning on making a trail rig out of it though, consider other options.

Oil pressure gauge dropped to zero and stayed on the way to work today. I went ahead and drove it in for about 3 miles. Everything else looked good, no overheating and valves were not clattering, no unusual noise. Could it just be the oil sending unit?
Please just be the oil sending unit . . .

AA wanted $45, I said "no thanks, Jeff."

Edit: I also asked for a mechanical oil pressure gauge and they looked at me like I was crazy.

Edit 2: AZ looked at me like I was crazy too.

That's about how much I paid at Napa but it was well built. OEM from a place called full service was about $10-15 more IIRC.
