Yeah I see that's about the going rate. I would like to check it first though, but nobody has a gauge. I'm trying to contact a friend I think has one.

Could not find a gauge to rent, although Harbor Freight has one. I'm not cheap but just don't want to spend money on something I will most likely use once.
Anyway I looked under the oil cap, the rockers I could see had oil on them. Is this a good indicator that it is just the oil pressure sender showing zero pressure? Is there anything I should be looking/listening for if I really did run it at zero pressure.

Have you driven it since? Cause the 4.0L that was in my YJ when I bought it lasted approximately six seconds after oil pressure dropped to 0. Then a connecting rod went into the asphalt, and the guy behind me disappeared in a cloud of smoke.

Have you considered buying an oil pressure sending unit and simply returning it if that isn't the problem? It'd be cheaper (free if you don't need it) instead of buying a mechanical gauge that you say you'll use once

 

Yeah I drove it the rest of the way to work in the morn (about 3-4 miles) and about 10 or so miles after work. I have a unit ordered from rockauto, but it won't be in for several days.

 

New problem in the YJ:
4.0L, 32RH (TF999) auto, NP231, currently no rear driveshaft, no parking brake

As of a few days ago, the YJ will sometimes, but not always, roll back about 2ft (that's .6m for Salad) when I put it in Park.

At first I thought the parking pawl was broken, but it eventually stopped rolling. Then I thought I may have broken a tooth on the Park gear, but it was suggested to me that it could be a DS u-joint going bad. I feel like symptoms of a bad u-joint should be more consistent, but I have been getting vibes in the 55-65mph range, and my DS isn't balanced.

Thoughts?

Disclaimer: I'm prepping for an axle swap, and it'll be 4WD again with a functional parking brake once I'm finished with this project.

do vacuum canisters go bad or is it just the hose not sealing that causes issues there?

 

They can crack, but those problems are usually from vacuum lines. Rubber ones dryrot, and plastic ones become brittle with age and break

 

Anybody ever modded their "driving lights" to be somewhat of a headlight replacement? street legal miniature projectors maybe?

 

Seems like a hecka lot of roll back for a universal to have 2' of slop, seems more like a transfer case chain or something to me..... somebody butt in if that sounds stupid
