It's never going to sound like a V8, it's just too smooth. But you can get a nice boat-like burble.

I first installed a 40 series flow master with a 2 1/2" tail pipe. Sounded ok. To quiet. Removed that and installed a super 10. Very nice rumble and no to loud.

I drive a 93 XJ 2 door, 2 wheel drive. I need to replace my exhaust system. I want a better sound that doesn’t sound like a fart in the wind. Suggestions?

Hello I have a 99 xj and an 01 xj for parts. Will the 01 exhaust manifold bolt up to the 99 block? The 99 down pipe is cracked at the Y and I was wondering if I can just swap them over. Thanks in advance

Hello, Just picked up a 1999 XJ. It has an aftermarket header. I don't know the Maker. The bolts you are talking about in the picture, are they threaded in or are the just bolts going through the flanges. Mine are stripped and need to be replaced. I can't get them to turn and I don't want to snap them off. I have soaked them with break free solvents but, No luck. I just need to make sure they are not pressed in and can be changed. New to this Jeep thing.
Thanks,
Mike

For it to pass smog, you need a CARB catalyst. I drove a car with a federal cat, then he installed a CA CARB cat, and it felt it lost 50 horses. BIG DIFFERENCE

Tail pipe test ( for the state) will tell the truth. Know and learn your state requirements . Because Nevada's variations the FlowMaster CAT 3" does the job. Still getting @ or more than 20 mpg on HYW.

Just ordered the Northeastern Exhaust 1996-1999 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L Complete Exhaust System Kit for my 96, anything I should know for installing it? I've never worked with the exhaust system before besides patching a hole in the tailpipe.

Probably been answered in the last 12 years and 350 pages. I'm not reading it all to see.

Maybe mods can consider making a dedicated exhaust section, instead of this nonsense?

I’m unsure if this is the normal ignition and I’m just shutting it off before the RPMs come back down, or if it’s doing this because I only have open headers or what. Plz help!
Anyway, I got a cheap ebay header and this happened to me... but not the first time. The dang header rubbed the tube from cylinders 1 & 6 and I didn't know it. Later, I removed it so I could grind down the intake manifold - which can be done a lot on 1 but hardly any on 6 - you can try to dent the tube on 6 if you want.....

Anyway, I reinstalled and had this immediate symptom revving to the rpm limiter before I could shut it off (it startled me greatly).

There was a spot the manifolds fit *just right* and I got lucky the first time. And the 3rd time.
