There is an almost 100 page thread called "all muffler and exhaust questions go here". You'll learn everything you would want to know and more about exhausts and which one to get

ya thats a stupid thread..
first time i've seen a thread done like that.
i get the concept.
but u have more threads u get more traffic u get better answers etc etc.
when u search it pops up that one and maybe a couple others.

who wants to read through a couple hundred pages? seriously?

im actually posting a full exhaust question here in a minute after writing this.

It's so we don't have 30 of the same threads all asking the exact same question...

Yep.

And I'm not saying you're gunna need to read all 100 pages. Maybe first 5 or 10. Everything else gets repetitive after that. I mean if I were thinking of spending the money to replace my exhaust, I'd be willing to put in the time to learn anything and everything to make the decision. Maybe that's just me...

but also asking a question exhaust related brings up another hit.
ie another thread topic of discussion.
ie another hitter that pops up when someone whos NOT a member here searches... its how people find out about this site who havent heard from someone etc etc.
it just makes it go smoother.

yes it does help.
but some may not find what they want in that 100 page deal.
i've read the whole thing. Plus the suspension one. plus 5 others that lag on for 100 or so pages.

IMHO its a waste of time.
each person has a different way of asking or wanting something than someone before may have done.

But also opening up a thread has people comment on just that where has some of these 100 page deals is alot of bickering and alot of garbage in between.

not sure if that makes it a lil clearer but ya.

why not just help the person or not say anything.
kinda like hey go use the search function but in this case hey go read this 100 page thread and that should help u.

^^and i like how none of you just tell him the simple answer. glasspack, super 40, or super 44 are the big ones used... and now is when you would say,"use the search tool"

Flowmaster 40, 44 or 10, a shorter glasspack, or even the cat alone can give it a good sound.

I have a Flowmaster super 40 with a magnaflow hi-flow cat and a 2.5" mandrel bent tailpipe - sounds great!

dont mean to hijack but
can you do 2.5" from headers?

you probably could have a downpipe custom bent, but there's no need. You want the exhaust gases flowing as fast as possible out of the engine. Bigger does not mean faster in this case. 2.25" is perfect for these engines before the cat.

on 4L displacement you can go 3 inch . 2.5 is more than sufficient tho.

3 inch would be more rev oriented. 2.5 would be more benicial to low-end torque and mid-range power on the jeeps side drafting head

your yanking this guys chain right?

you dont want your exhaust flowing as fast as possible. once you hit a certain air speed the exhaust gasses become a restriction them selves. slower air speed the gases actually flows better. but you don't want it too slow as it will kill the ability of the manifold and system to scavenge and clean the cylinder before the next combustion cycle. that simple engine dynamics.

if your going to spend money on exhaust to try and get a gain. target it towards the characteristics about your engine you want to enhance.

but if your just going for sound then the rest of all that dosnt realy mater and just gash a desired muff into the pipe

nope not kidding. The bigger the pipe, the faster the gases cool off, the more they expand, and the harder they are to expel from the system. The exhaust pulses also won't line up very well with a bigger pipe, they'll tend to reflect all over the place, resulting in poorer flow. You want to create a vacuum in the exhaust - effectively pulling the exhaust toward the tip.

Not to mention if you go to a pipe that's too big you're going to lose tons of the low end torque these engines are praised for
