I need your help! Just purchased a 2003 grand cherokee overland in remarkable condition with one exception, It doesn't want to take on fuel. When I try to fill tank, I have to barely pull fuel nozzel or gas bubbles up and shuts off pumping. doesn't matter the orientation or depth of nozzel, it just bubbles up and trigger shuts off. This is for my wife and it has to be right or my life will be miserable! PLEASE HELP !!!

 

So the obvious first. Jack up the rear end, remove left rear tire. In the fender well area, toward the rear, there is a plastic splash panel/guard with push clips and I think a screw or two. Remove them and if I recall remove a few wheel well clips to optimize visualization. On my 01 WJ Laredo(while installing new fuel pump, skid plate), there were 2 rubber lines. One for fuel fill, there other a vent hose, both clamped to the metal filler neck. Inspect carefully for collapse, structures in either/both hoses.
Last Sept when replacing FP and skid, at about 201k, (semi major project/5 hours) I replaced all rubber hoses/lines/clamps and also the metal filler neck . There was a tiny leak at a metal weld, that kept throwing Evap Emissions code “Very Small Leak” which was also confirmed with a smoke machine test- not from cap but the metal filler neck weld.
