Questions on straight piping a Grand Cherokee
Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum, so this is my first post. Hazza! Haha, anyways, I have a few questions I would like to ask and if you have an answer to any of them, I would be eternally grateful.
My Jeep: 1998 Grand Cherokee Limited Edition (5.9L)- Completely Stock
Questions:
1.) What size is the exhaust piping on this Cherokee? I've seen anywhere from 2.25-3, so I have no clue.
2.) Straight Pipe or Glasspack? I'm leaning towards a straight pipe because once a glass pack has all the fiberglass blow out, it becomes that, so I figure it might save me some money.
3.) Exhaust clamps or welding for whichever one I put on (keep in mind that I'm 16 lol)
4.) I already know this, but I figure it could never hurt to check, do I just saw-sawz the old muffler off, put the new one in and clamp it down?
Thank you to anyone that can answer!

Check your state's Vehicle exhaust laws.
Here in S.C. it says you must have a muffler if you drive on the roads.
That means if they pull you over, and you don't have one then you usually get a ticket.
They did pull my old neighbor, but his exhaust tip was a muffler so no ticket.
A glasspack is good enough in this state.

A loud exhaust is fun and cool for a while, but then you get tired of it and all of the attention the police give you.

Hi all, Still new to renix, but liking it more every day. I found a set of Pace Setter 70-1191 headers that supposedly fit my 88 xj 4.0, & I think I can afford. I'm wondering if the headers will affect the operation of the 02 sensor or anything else. I don't know if less back pressure can be a bad thing.

Not much of a problem with an OBDI which a Renix is. Reduced back pressure on an OBDII can cause the catalyst monitor to set for efficiency.

Here's my renix ho header and full 2.5" with spintech muffler
haven't ran it yet.
Did full egr delete and fabbed all pipes. Renix manifold was all cracked thats what fueled this project..

My recently purchased XJ had a rusty muffler and an intermediate pipe that appeared cobbled together and inhibited access to the auto trans. I bought the Walker prefab pipes ($110) and Duramax muffler from summit, reused the old cat, and replaced both O2 sensors. It all bolted up fairly easily except the tailpipe mount which I removed. A friend gave me the cat off his rig which appears in better shape than mine. Is there any way to know if my old one is on its last legs or his is better (other than appearance)? If it aint broke don't fix it, but would I be ahead to swap in his, will it enhance or degrade the fuel economy, make no difference, or just leave it alone?
