Was it not running when you bought it? Not getting anything on the obd scan tool is a very ominous sign that usually means the pcm is either not connected or the unit itself is bad. Only other thing might be if there is no voltage on the system...do all the headlights etc and guages work?

yes the fuel gauge should move when you turn the key on. 500 is pretty good for a jeep with only 30k on a verifiable rebuild. So I would try to fix it. You said the pump runs if you jump it, and that your scan tool wont connect. Given that you never saw this run, it sounds to me like they put another engine in and didn't quite solve the connections to the sensors and or PCM properly, or the PCM is bad. Sounds like it might be over your head a little, no disrespect intended.

I too bought a 96 Grand Cherokee cheaply have replaced distributor module , crank angle sensor and today installed a new fuel pump . But I have the same issue no apparent power at the fuel pump , did all the usual checks relays fuses etc but still no joy . You mentioned a CPS unit ? Where do I locate that ?

Too lazy to use punctuation? I'm not about to spend my time helping you.

You'll generally find that the older crowd is the more knowledgeable crowd, and they are the same people who have little patience for spoiled, lazy children who expect the world to do everything for them while they put out minimal effort.
