Here is alot of information: checked out on Flowmasters website COMPARISON CHART, loudness to power etc. One major advantage of the Flowmaster loudness chart is being able to compare sound levels across their entire product catalog. This makes it easy to identify the loudest options if maximum volume is your goal. Based on the max decibel ratings, here is how the Flowmaster series stack up from loud to loudest:
  1. FlowFX
  2. Delta Force
  3. American Thunder
  4. Outlaw
  5. Force II
  6. 40 Series
  7. Super 44
  8. Super 40
  9. Super 10
The Super 10 reigns supreme when it comes to raw loudness, with a brain-rattling rating of 95 decibels at wide open throttle. The Super 40 and Super 44 series also deliver an aggressive tone, thanks to their chambered mufflers and minimal baffling. Further down the list, the FlowFX offers a more refined rumble in the 80 decibel range.

Keep in mind that the loudest exhaust may not always be the best choice. Sound levels need to be matched to your specific vehicle, its engine size, and the impression you want to make. The Flowmaster chart is just a starting point to gauge the differences between each series.

  • 80 dB or less – Normal speaking voice
  • 85 – 95 dB – Motorcycle, lawnmower, shop vac
  • 100 dB – Jackhammer, jet flyover
  • 115 dB – Sandblasting, rock concert
  • 120 dB – Ambulance siren, thunderclap Loudest
  • Super 10 – Absolute king of loud, earning its name with 95 dB roar
  • Super 40 – Deafening 91 dB, yet street legal when uncorked
  • Force II – Sheer brute force and 90+ dB wall of sound
  • Quietest
  • Flow FX – With 80 dB, nearly stock noise levels
  • Delta Force – Civilized nature with max 85 dB output
  • American Thunder – Restrained rumble under 2500 RPM
They all look good.

I've searched the Forums and can't find the answer.

I'm trying to source the weird three bolt flange that is used on the 2000/2001's with the California emissions. This is the flange that is on the end of the down pipe and both ends of the intermediate pipe and the front end of the catalytic converter and uses gasket 31625 from Walker.

I've searched every exhaust manufactures Master Catalog I could find. While they all have this flange installed on their pipe assemblies, no one seems to sell this flange separately. Anyone have a lead on a source?

Default Flow master s

Try a LARGE muffler shop in town or a large town near you..
They will know where to get it, or a really good shop can make it..
A Machine shop will have the right metal ( soft steel) and they'll cut it out for you.

Additionally I went with a Hi-flow Cat and an FlowFX by Flowmaster.... very mello tone and not loud to lose the music or a conversation. 3 " in and out straight thru. see pic's.

I can make you a flange, if you can provide measurements. Hole sizes, position of the 3 holes. Got a program for this already. Free part, you pay shipping. Lmk. Happy trails. R

Not sure if this has been covered. What high flow cat works with CA emissions?

I'm in Nevada and we are not required to continually get checked , so I really cant answer....

FLOW MASTER had this made or designed it ... BUT a CA. emission test would answer... if it fails ,,,, send it back... or comm to Flow Master and see what they say

Default Need help

Hi,

I am new here and new to a 2000 XJ Sport. I am in California and need to smog it. The issue is I need to take it to a STAR station for smog but the catalytic converter was stolen last year when the previous owner had it. My question is for members in CA, will a Magnaflow or other CARB approved catalytic converter work? Have any of you had to purchase a CA compliant catalytic converter?

Thanks!
Edwin

I installed this Magnaflow on my XJ here in CO for the rear cat.. same emission protocols as CA. Just make sure to verify if you have Y-Cats off the exhaust header or not and if those need to be replaced (probably not)

Thanks for the prompt response, I am almost certain this is the route I am going to go with and yes the rest of the cats on the header are intact : )
Someone took advantage of the fact that it's lifted and cut it right off in the middle of the night.

Thanks
Edwin

Default Found one

For those of you in CA, the Magnaflow CARB compliant part numbers are:

447205-- for the 2.25"
447206-- for the 2.5"

I spoke to Joe at Value Smog in Cathedral City, CA who assisted me in locating the reference number under the hood. I also called Magnaflow who confirmed the part numbers.

Best regards
Edwin

Default Passed emissions

So I finally found the time to get the smog check and with the above part number it passed. I was worried that I might have been missing an O2 sensor after the last cat but it did not, it passed with the two factory cats plus the CA Magnaflow. I also added a Flowmaster FX, sounds very deep, almost V8 like.

Best regards

Default Broken Exhaust pipe... Easy Fix???

So what had happened was…

went wheeling in northern Michigan last weekend and managers to come down on a rock hidden under some water. Must have been a good one because it broke the weld on the tailpipe clean right after the cat. It looks like there may be enough to just put a sleeve on it but I am a total noob when it comes to exhaust work and I don’t know how to weld. Any advice for a quick and hopefully cheap fix? added a photo to show what I’m talking about. Thanks!

Default Yes

Easy fix. Your exhaust should be 2.25".
Cleanly cut about 1" from both broken ends with a saw and take a piece to the parts store. Buy a piece of exhaust pipe that fits over the piece you cut off and that is long enough to fit over both pipes and gives you at least 2" of overlap on both ends for a good seal.
Buy two 2.25" clamps and hi temp gasket maker (not the exhaust adhesive).
Remove the tailpipe bracket at the rear and remove the exhaust pipe hanging tab from the rubber hanger that is located behind the muffler under the body. Be sure to have someone or something supporting the muffler. You might be able to just loosen the rear bracket and not have to remove it all the way.
Apply gasket maker to both ends, install piece of pipe, and hang the muffler back up. Tighten both clamps really good until you see a slight indent under the clamp to ensure a good seal and you are good to go.
You should spend about $25 or so.

Default I need a new exhaust system

Greetings. Getting close to finishing the 2000 XJ Hunting Rig Project. A few more things to do. The exhaust system is original and I will be replacing it. The Cat Converter will be removed and not reinstalled. I am looking for a sound that is as close to a V8 sound as possible. I have had Flow Master on several of my pickups in the past with no issues. It appears there are several companies out there with a quality product. I just want to make the right decision. Any opinions will be much appreciated. .

Default FX

I am very happy with my Flowmaster FX, paid $55 for it.

It does not sound like your typical chamber muffler, it sounds more like a Magnaflow to be honest.
