all muffler and exhaust questions go here!!!!!!
I was forced to do a full custom exhaust on my 01 XJ. I live in CA and the restrictions are insane!
The guys over at Babe's Mufflers (in San Jose) did a fantastic job from sourcing legal Cats to routing the pipes right where I wanted them- Sounds awesome too!
I wouldn't recommend ripping everything out and doing it from scratch (if you can help it) because the cats were so expensive (almost $2k!)
Thanks,

I swapped a Ford 8.8 into my 1996 XJ and the post-cat exhaust needs to be redone for clearance reasons. It looks like a centered inlet/outlet would work best due to the offset diff on the 8.8. The thing is, I'm not a huge fan of loud exhausts. I take this Jeep on road trips and I have a sound system...I want to hear my tweeters, not get tinnitus and a headache. I don't mind a little louder than stock, but nothing that will turn heads or drone on the highway. Any suggestions?
The Magnaflow 11245 looks like about the biggest muffler I can fit, but it's a straight through design and I don't know what to expect as far as sound level goes. I'm guessing it'll be at least a little louder than stock with a deeper tone, but if it's substantially louder I might pass on it.

Anyone have a recommendation for a quiet stainless steel muffler that has a 2.5" inlet and outlet? Looking to replace my Flowmaster because I'm sick of the noise. I think its rusted through internally. Its significantly louder than it used to be, but I can't see any holes anywhere. Its not even 5 years old. I'm disappointed I'm already needing to replace it.
I looked through Walker's catalog for a Quiet Flow, but they don't offer one in a 2.5" centered inlet and 2.5" offset outlet configuration.

Hi all, my XJ is leaking exhaust from the front, the exhaust is hitting the trans cross member and the tail pipe hanger has broken - time for a new system!
I'm hoping to keep the manifold, will check more closely on that. Being in England, choices are pretty limited to what can be shipped from the US. I'd love a full custom Stainless system but then I'd probably just flatten it on a rock
It look slike my best option is from RockAuto - has anyone got any experience with the Walker kit? I'm looking at everything bar the Catalyst (I'm hoping to re-use that too as it is still working just fine).
I'm not looking for anything loud, just hopefully something that will last a few years and keep me from getting pulled over
This is the part no from Rock Auto WALKER KIT2823046 it's the Daily Driver version with the "Quiet Flow SS Muffler".

Random question, kinda.
I have a 92 XJ along with my main 01 XJ. Are the exhaust manifolds interchangable between them or are the bolt patterns and ports slightly different?

Not sure how active this thread is and I did a search looking for my answer but I'm not scrolling through 130 pages, sorry.
I have my exhaust off my Jeep. The front pipe and cat are intact but orangy colored with surface corrosion. I assume this is SS. The welded muffler/tailpipe combination will need to be replaced since the muffler is kinda beat up.
I don't want any rust on this Jeep. I am going to what some would say ridiculous lengths to remove ALL the rust which is only present on some bolts, the exhaust and some that was on the parking brake, seat pans and shift lever which is now gone.
Would I be better off to hit my factory pipe(I know I am going to keep the CAT) with a wire wheel so I can paint it? Or take it and get it sandblasted? Or buy new? If new, should I stay with SS or go with aluminized steel?
Thanks.

Hi all,
I bought a XJ a few years back...little did I pay attention to the exhaust system as I was living in Michigan and they don't require emissions tests...also, didnt really care as
the car was a winter vehicle/summer off-roading...as long as it runs I'm happy.
However, I moved to Colorado and failed an emissions test for NOx (reading: 2.56 GPM vs limit: 1.5 GPM)
When I purchased the vehicle, the rear catalytic converter was removed, looked like it had been broken off during off-roading, and only a muffler was installed. The XJ I have is a California vehicle,
with two-front catalytic converters connected to the exhaust headers and 4 O2 sensors. The default exhaust system, as Ive come to learn about had 3 cats installed, the two fronts and one rear.
Recently off-roading, the muffler got torn up, and so I replaced it with a muffler and exhaust...however, I didn't install a rear cat.
My question is, by installing a rear cat, would this bring my NOx levels below 1.5GPM? or before I go spend $600 on a CARB rated rear-cat, would there be some tinkering with the engine I could do
to bring the readings below 1.5GPM.
Please advise.. Thanks!

I can't answer your question but can tell from the description that you own an '00 or an '01.
Are you sure you have to have a CARB rated rear cat?
Cause where I live I don't. But have to have one.
So I was able to buy a Walker rear cat that is not CARB rated.
In other words it was the direct fit cat for my '00 but could not be sold in CA.
And while it was a long time ago and I know prices have gone up I paid about $170 for it.
