I was testing out my 4 wheel high last night(no wheelin, just around the block) after putting new fluid in the transfer case and trans. It seems to engage and dis-engage fine. However, when turning it seems to have a binding sound. I know it's typical to get some feedback when turning in 4wd, but this has me concerned. Front diff oil has already been changed a couple weeks ago. I'm going to grease all the fittings up front today. Are the u-joints bad or going bad?
You tried it off road correct?

Nah it sounds like he just went driving on dry pavement which would cause massive hop if he took a turn to fast or sharp.

Yeah that's kinda what it sounded like to me. Especially how it was phrased.

Google search shipping weight for a long block 350lbs.

http://flitelineenginesupply.com/ind...products_id=70

add accessories puts weight in the 400 - 450 range.

I've only had it in 4wd once before and that was the day I bought it about a month ago. Worked fine on the test drive. After I did the fluid change yesterday I tried it out in my neighborhood, which was partially dry pavement just to make sure it engaged and dis-engaged ok. I only drove it like that for about half a block. I know turning it'll make some resistance, but this sound was not normal. It's been making a similar sound while turning the last week in 2wd, 4 wheel high just made it louder. I bought a grease gun today, but I didn't find any fittings for the wheel hubs or u-joints, if there are any.

I have a 2001 grand cherokee 4.7 with a bad camshaft. The local dealer says the factory no longer makes them. Can someone recommend place where I can buy a camshaft.

thx.

sean

from personal experience - check the inside of the valve cover for sludge build up...if its black, take a flathead screwdriver and scrape the inside...you should see shiny metal underneath. if that happens, take the time to scrape all that sludge out of there...its tedious and time consuming, but it's worth it because theres no longer the chance of that sludge getting into the rest of your engine.

also, make sure all your valve rocker bolts are tight to spec, and that your rockers and pushrods are free of sludge. if you do have to clean them, take the bolts off 2 at a time, per each rocker, and make sure to tighten them all down, rotate the crankshaft a bit, then retighten. trust me, its not pleasant to hear a huge " THUD CRACK THUD CRACK THUD CRACK " when you start up your engine after doing that...

also, if you do have a lot of sludge cleaning to do, MAKE SURE no sludge bits fall in the holes of the pushrods, and you should change your oil after a few miles cuz all that sludge will be free and circulating.

The u-joints seem fairly inexpensive. Did you do the work yourself? How hard was it?

Lobes wear incorrectly due to some other problem? Other problem gets fixed and cam goes unnoticed?
