hey...what does it mean when you suspected a blown head gasket, then open just the valve cover and find that 2 of your valve sets for cylinders 1 ans 3 have done this:

also, make sure all your valve rocker bolts are tight to spec, and that your rockers and pushrods are free of sludge. if you do have to clean them, take the bolts off 2 at a time, per each rocker, and make sure to tighten them all down, rotate the crankshaft a bit, then retighten. trust me, its not pleasant to hear a huge " THUD CRACK THUD CRACK THUD CRACK " when you start up your engine after doing that...

also, if you do have a lot of sludge cleaning to do, MAKE SURE no sludge bits fall in the holes of the pushrods, and you should change your oil after a few miles cuz all that sludge will be free and circulating.
Thx for the heads up...i'm sure you be hearing form me again.
Thx again!

Got it removed.
Here is a video....no sludge but loud tapping noise in a few.

Oh, i started a thread...pls chime in.

I have a shop. Another shop that I work with knows I am on a lot of messages boards and asked if I could find them a camshaft. They called the dealer ship. I called summit/rockauto/worldpac and some local places that I buy parts from.

I am not sure what went wrong with the truck, I did not ask. What I do know is they had head cleaned up. After they had the head cleaned up the machinist realized the cam was bad.

Anyways, anybody know where I can get a camshaft?

Prefer OEM or at least OEM spec cam. If the cams are different will have to do the both cams. Of course two aftermarket cams have to be cheaper than a new engine

Anyone with a 99+ running a 2001 - 2003 dodge Durango alternator? I did some reading and found a couple sources that say the 2001-2003 Durango with the 5.9 engine has a 160 amp alternator and that it is plug and play with the 99 + model xjs just wondering if any of u have done this and if it's true. I was gonna go with The zj alternator bit it'll take a bit of tweeking cause my field connectors are different I have one kicking around just wanted to bounce around some ideas

Not plug and play. Mounts will need to be grinded down to make it fit, but it can be done. You'll also have to upgrade your wiring and fusible links.

i read somewhere that the newer model intake manifold can be used on the older model xjs...is it true, and is there any gain to it?

yes and no. There are gains to be had from it, but you also have to add a better flowing throttle body and exhaust, and add bigger injectors.

Your model being a Renix engine waaaay futher complicates things also...to do this on yours and see any benefit whatsoever you'd need:

1) H.O. head
2) 99+intake manifold and exhaust manifold
3) H.O. Throttle body
4) H.O. fuel rail and fuel lines
5) bigger injectors
6) 96+ ZJ power steering pump and bracket
7) 96+ throttle cable
8) new belt
9) KEEP renix A/C compressor
10) KEEP alternator
11) H.O. throttle cable bracket (mounts on intake)
12) H.O. intake hose and box

I have to grind for the Durango? I know you have to for the zj what Gage wire should I use and put a fuseable link on the b+ right? For the Durango 160 what size fuze should I use?

Tried!! Looks like I'll have to start a new thread!!!

I need a new engine as mine has compression issues and doesn't have the power like it should. It runs great but when I'm traveling at 50+ mph, and start to go up a hill, my Jeep slows way down and I have to goose it to get it to shift into a lower gear to regain speed.

My question is, I'm thinking about looking for a newer engine from like a 96 or 98, something from there with less mileage and I was wondering, what all will I have to do to make the swap? I know you need to change the computers, but else is there to it? Of course I need all my gauges to work and everything else. I have an '88 Renix 4.0. Would it just be better to find another Renix 4.0 and swap that in instead of going through all the pain of swapping in a Chrysler 4.0?
