Jammed as it won't open. Try a love tap to te right of the handle and pull. Happens to me after I changed struts and here an there if I close to hard

i just got done putting a 4.5" zone lift on my jeep and took it offroad, and this was happening before, everytime i go through a puddle it bogs, the rpms go down to zero for a second or two and then it comes back to life, its even died on me a couple times, smoke starts pouring out of the hood and idk what im getting wet? its not my distributor because i took it in the garage and sprayed it with a squirt bottle while it was running, could it be my alternator thats getting wet? its really low on the 96 and under cherokees, idk about the newer ones, any answers would help alot, thanks

Sounds like she's choking. Do you have a stock air Intake? Possibly that or a sensor is getting soaked briefly

Ok jammed as in it'll unlatch when you pull handle but until you get passed a certain point it's hell to get up. Did you get stock xj hatch struts?

Is it possible to install those struts upside down? Haven't looked; just an idea.

Updated: '91 4.0 - Recent (5 months ago) rad, cap, tstat, watr pmp, hose replacement and flush. Just replaced heater core valve (after this all started). But it is running VERY COOL according to temp guage. Started after it got cold here. Will not get to normal op temps at all according to temp guage. Ambient temp today around 50*. Should get warm. Temp needle drops when i hit the gas. Shot housing with a temp gun and shows between 200-215*, which is good. The elec fan doesnt kick on though. Upper rad hose gets hot. But no fan. Now when i implug temp sensor on housing, fan fires right up. Prob failsafe to keep temps down in case of failure? Any ideas guys? I am at a loss! New temp sensor? What else can i replace? I also swapped my bendix brakes recently. Dont think i unplugged something related to cooling system???

Oh and i ran it low on coolant. It had been leaking from the htr core valve. I didnt realize. So maybe air in system?

Default the noises my jeep makes...

hey guys well a couple months ago i bought and installed a rc 4.5 inch lift to my cherokee, and since then whenever i step on or let off the gas pedal i makes a grinding noise, now i know my gears are worn n will need to be replaces in the not to distant future, but iv also had people say it could be my transfer case or somthing to do with my transmision... any help on this would be great because id rather not go threw the process of replacing things only to have it been for no reason.... thanks.

No not bad was just curious if it was modified. Def has a sensor loose somewhere. Check the o2 sensor cables and map sensor IAC etc etc.

I have too during the hurricane but was curious on his part. I agree that it's probably a sensor

As weird as it sounds, like clown said is it possible they were I stalled upside down. That or are they the right size for your xj. If its too big it'll give you problems. What brand are they
