This shows a 247 t-case as an example, but they're all similar.

Try to help when you can, I don't tell people to use the Search feature if I can help someone in a pinch...have fun with it...the posts pile up before you know it...and being retired helps a lot.

I just picked my 2001 XJ up from my local mechanic. I am having a problem, where ocassionally, it throws a PO300, PO301 and PO306. CEL flashes then illuminates. Vehicle starts to miss and runs like crap. Shut it off, restart, and it runs just fine. Read alot of TSB's regarding carbon build-up, but my problem is very intermittent. Drove it to work today (30 miles) no issue whatsoever. Mechanic said they found a possible issue in the cluster where they would briefly lose power. Quoted me $900.00 for a New Jeep Cluster, They didn't think you could swap a used cluster as it had to come from Chrysler and had to be programmed for the specific vehicle. My concern is that I don't want to spend money on the cluster, drive it a week later and have the same issues with the CEL and codes.
Just to make things more difficult, these issue only occur when it is cold outside (below 32 degrees) Drove the truck everday all summer 60 miles round trip, never had any problem.
Any advice/comments anyone could provide would really be appreciated.

The problem is almost certainly electrical in nature, so start with the basics.
- freshen your ground points - one at the battery (-) to the fender, one at the rear of the valve cover to the firewall, and a few attached to the oil level dipstick tube - in each case unbolt the wires, use sandpaper to get the contact points and connectors nice and shiny and reattach.
- do the same with the battery terminals, and check the wire connections to the terminals.
- do a ignition tuneup - replace/inspect spark plugs, wires, and cap/rotor.
- if the problem still persists, I would recommend replacing the crankshaft position sensor - thermal failure is common in this sensor, and it is a main component that controls the engine timing and spark.
