So im looking to get a cordless drill to remove random bolts on the jeep when doing projects, not looking for something too expensive, just to speed up bolt removal during projects.

Has anyone use one like this \/. Did it work well with just using the hex to socket adapter?



For more money i could get a 3/8" drive version about the same size and have 1/4" and 1/2" adapters i could use on that as well.




I wanted to get and impact style because it could break froze bolts better than a stander drive drill. This will be to use when im AWAY from air tool availability. Not using for major bolts that need air impact or breaker bars. Havnt really picked a brand yet, most likely something from Homedepot or Lowes and somethig with a good warranty incase i burn up batteries or break the tool.

Any input is appreciated.

 

I use 1/4 inch impacts at work all the time. We have two dewalt and a Mikita, they will shear quarter inch bolts, and get 3/8 stuff pretty tight, but I doubt that they would do anything to a seized bolt. One would be great for zipping out fasteners once they are broken loose with a wrench The 3/8 models would probably a little more powerfull.

 

I would look into some high end or mid ebd 1/2" electric impacts if you want to be able to actually break seized bolts loose. All the stuff your looking at is just going to be fast but not much power

Went to the JY today and picked up a new gauge cluster and several switch panels. What is the power/comfort switch with the picture of the transmission on it?

 

It's for auto trans it adjust the shift up maybe 200rpms

 

Well maybe not so much break fasteners but mainly speed. I hate sitting there with bolts that have 2 inches of threads and wear my wrists out cranking away with a wrench.

Do they make an adapter that you could screw like philips and flathead screws incase i need to? Or is it just the hext style impact that could do both.

 

How do you remove the driveshafts on an XJ? Never had to do it before...

Its for the the 90' and below xjs. It let the transmission shift smoother less aggressive than the power option would do. 91'+ is hardwired into power mode from factory.

 

Just undo them at the pinion (Rear) and i can yank them out?

Front undo at pinion and T case or whatever?

 

Mines a 91, it has one. Maybe they stopped half way thru, or didn't start til 92, dunno.

From my experience with it, I kept it in sport, because that's where it was when I bought it. One day I was driving and it took like 5 mins (ok, it was like 10secs, but it felt like 5 mins lol) to shift. Kept doing it, and downshifts were weird. I thought for sure my trans was shot... looked down, my knee had hit the switch to comfort.

I don't think it changes shift points, I think it might change how quick it shifts. Or maybe mine was ****ed. Either way, I'm gonna find a way to remove it and put another light switch where it was.
