OK; thanks.

So how do I check them and what do I check them for?

What is it which makes that particular light go on?

Usually it means your oil pressure or voltage is too low or too high, or the connector behind the dash has come unconnected temporarily. There's a fix for the connector behind the dash but you'll have to search for that.

Default "HD fan clutch"

I've seen a few people mention "HD" fan clutchs for our XJs. They pull a little harder to help with cooling but are louder and rob a few HP.

My question is: did Jeep have an "HD fan clutch" option or something for like a towing package? What do I look for at the parts counter?

Or.. are these fan clutchs for Grand Cherokees? I've seen that one before too. Same clutch? And is it from a WJ or ZJ?

The HD clutch I believe is for a ZJ. Like you go to NAPA and ask for the ZJ clutch. If you have a properly functioning cooling system. Stock mech fan is enough.

You did not complete the equation. Methhead + rubber hose + gas can = 1/4 tank of gas

Previous owner comments shouldn't be trusted. Check the spark plugs for good gap.
Its a 4.0L, 1988. All the parts look new, and I checked the plugs they are NGK double platinum .040 gap I think I am gonna swap them for some copper plugs. Any other tips are appreciated.

I work at a Napa. My fan clutch was not stopping quick like it should when you shut off the engine. Just so happens I was putting in a new fan shroud at that time, got tired of the busted tabs at the bottom, and was considering the HD one we sell. Which I am pretty sure is the ZJ one. Figure do it all at once and call it a day. Anyway asked my boss, trust his opinion, and he said if I am not having any cooling problems go with the regular one. It will be loud and your gas mileage will tank.

It slowly creeps up at interstate highway speeds. I have the cooling system vastly improved, it no longer overheats after only a few minutes of highway speed, but I'm about to drive 9 hours accross western kansas and eastern colorado where the temperatures today are over 100*. I also have GenRight hood vents on the way from Quadratec. Just looking for anything that can help!

Default 87 xj 2.5l ac help

Just want to make sure the low side is on the right before I recharge it. The one on the left goes to the condenser in front of the radiator. The one on the right goes to a green box on the firewall that looks like it goes inside. Sorry for asking such a basic question first time messing with an ac.

If you or a buddy can weld: http://a.co/dWFv29G there might be some cheaper options out there too if you look around

This video has lots of good info, especially if you need to replace any parts.

NAPA shows their #272310 clutch for the 4cly XJ's. Not for the ZJ. It will fit other Jeeps though. CLICK buyers guide in this link:

There are probably markings on the compressor itself for "S" (suction/low) or "D" (discharge/high) that you can check. On most systems the high side goes from the compressor to the condenser, the low side from the compressor to the accumulator/drier.

You have the old AMC service valves. Covers for the valve stems are missing and should be replaced. You can use a 1/4" drive socket and a suitable hex key to operate the valves.

In normal operation the service valves are back-seated (full counter-clockwise). For servicing you crack them open a few turns. (AFTER connecting the hoses!) Front-seated (full clockwise) you can remove the compressor at the valves without discharging the system.

So i recently found out my power steering is leaking. What could be wrong with it, and how much will it cost roughly?
