It's the original paint...the clear is peeling on top of the hatch and a little on the back of the hatch as well...

 

I don't think he was trying to insult you. I think it just surprised him to see some one from Russia on the forum.

I wasn't aware that color had carried into the newer body style... It's hands-down my favorite on '96 and older XJs. One just hit the junkyard here with absolutely nothing wrong with the body... thought I was gonna be sick.

 

I'm interested. Let's see how you guys do it in Russia.

Looks like someone painted it to me.

 

That's painted, you can see the chipping on the pump, and the overspray on the oil pan studs

 

I'm installing a replacement yoke. How do I keep pinion from spinning when tightening down pinion nut? Do I have to put the carrier and axle shafts back in? Seems like a pain in the butt. I'd have to pull it all back out to check the preload.

 

put a large monkey wrench on it with a pipe to extend leverage

there are special tools for it too but that is the easiest thing to do
