Any help?

Confirm the part numbers are correct. There was a physical change in rotor dimension, I believe for the 99.
Also, keep in mind, the wheel bearing may have been affected from the excessive heat.

Master cylinder failures almost always result in loss of brakes. Can you please restate the symptoms as specifically as possible?

A week ago the jeep pulled to the driver side during heavy braking. Drove to work and had a burning smell on the highway. Pulled away from the toll booth and at 45+ mph got a bad vibration in the steering that went away in 1/4 mile. Passenger front brake was smoking 20 minutes later at a red light.

New parts: calipers, rotors, pads, soft lines.
Tried a second caliper because of the possibility that one could be bad, didnt change anything.

When new rotors are installed and both wheels are locked up, it is usually the wrong rotors. There was a design change, something about composite, non-composite and 1999 being a split year.

"2) 1990 through 1999.5 - Older Chrysler type unit hubs, use Composite dimension brake rotors,
( Timken Part # 513084, Jeep Part Number 53007449 ) and Chrysler calipers and Chrysler steering knuckles.
The unit hub/bearing are the same part number for both sides of the vehicle.

3) 1999.5 through 2001 - New Chrysler type unit hubs, use Cast dimension brake rotors,
( TIMKEN Part # HA597449 - Jeep Part Number 5016458 ) and Chrysler calipers and Chrysler steering knuckles.
The unit hub/bearing are the same part number for both sides of the vehicle.

I'm no expert in terminology so bear with me. I saw a write up where the pads had worn a grove in the actual seat...where they sit on the axle not the caliper. It was from the constant moving they pads do.The grove made his new pads slip closer to the rotor and lock up his brakes. The guy had to weld on new metal and file/grind it back to normal. Take the caliper off and see if that might be the issue.

EDIT: found the write up. The pad slide surface can get grooved over time. Here's the link to the writeup on jeep forum. http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f9/xj.../topics/924713

You might just be my hero. The rotors are awfully close to the TRE on the tie rod. They are also close to the backing plates, almost touching. And on the Advance Auto website there are two different numbers for brake rotors.
Guess I will be swapping them with the correct ones tomorrow.

Ill report back tomorrow night on what happens. Thank you.

Default Grease zerts?

I have to replace a couple front end grease fittings, zerts, nipples, what ever they are called but can't figure out what size to get!
I picked up an assortment of metric ones and types but none fit, either too small or too big.
So please educate me as to what size was used when my 2001 was built.
I am assuming that they are all the same size but ...
Thanks in advance for the help!

They are called zerk fittings. I dunno who Zerk was but he ought to be rich now

I would just take one out and take it to the parts store so they could match it.

They are standard 1/8 and 1/4 fittings. Most any true hardware store will have them, TSC is a great source if you have one nearby

Anyway to check control arm bushings? They seem to pass the grip and shake like crazy test. I have a clunk to the left of the brake pedal on rough bumps and those are in the general area.
