Hey I've got one y'all won't like! :P
When I bought my jeep it had four bad rod bearings, knocked like the world's end was nigh, then oil circulated and it was quiet until you revved it, and it clattered coming back down,so to keep it quiet and running until I has some cash I did something desperate, I put a mechanical fuel pressure gauge on it and it read 4-5 psi at idle once hot, and the knock showed up bad warm, given that I had some bearing tolerances to work with I picked something thick to make a more coagulated pressure reading, I said to heck with brand names and reason, I filled it up with super tech 85-140, made it much smoother and quieter.

Find out which synthetic you can get there and let Salad know about it. He'll guide you through it.

I put about 10k on it before I went to pull a part and ripped the engine out of a 91 Comanche and rebuilt it, so I really have no idea, but the gear oil did get broken down to a pretty soupyviscosity by 2-3k miles

In anticipation of warmer weather, I'm preparing a shopping list. My xj is leaking like a sieve (diffs, oil pan, valve cover, trans, main seal, etc.) so its time to replace all the seals and give a good flush.

Anyway, my questions is, does anyone have a part number for the pinion seal for the front diff? If anyone knows, I'd like to get it from Advance since they're near by.

98 sport I believe is a dana 30? However, all their descriptions are for dana 35s. Thanks for the help!

D30 is correct. Here's a write-up for a 2005 TJ Wrangler. It's the low pinion version of the axle you have, but I imagine the steps would be the same.

He gives NAPA p/n 15525 for the seal, but there is a chance yours could be different.

This brings up a good point: you can increase your engine's HP by adding HP Sauce to the oil and fuel. I have no idea why it isn't carried in the parts stores. It isn't tested by any recognizable automotive authority so it's basically the same as SeaFoam, Lucas, STP, and Slick50.
Hehe... you forgot ProLong

I'm pretty sure I saw the Mobil1 synthetic the other day in the hardware store. I'm gonna head over there and check it out.

Great article by Salad, BTW.
