XJ Ask the Question Thread

Got a coolant leak coming from right under the bottom bolt. Dont think I cracked the housing and the gasket is new. Thoughts? Thinking maybe I didnt scrap the prior gasket well enough?

In my experience thermostat housings are tricky to get a good seal with gasket alone. The guaranteed method is to use 'thermostat housing RTV'. Apply thin coat to both sides. Lightly snug bolts, allow time to cure, then tighten bolts to spec. I let it cure overnight before tightening and filling with coolant.
97 4x4 won't stay in 4Lo. Read to adjust linkage and tried but didn't fix it. It'll stay in 4Lo for a time then kicks back into neautral. The picture shows the linkage, white is the adjustment screw and rod. The piece outlined in yellow (not sure the name) has a lot of play in it. What I circled in yellow is really loose, is that normal? My XJ also has a trans case drop from the PO, if that has anything to do with it. What should I try next?
Hi. I am the owner of a 1990 Cherokee Limited. I'm in need of exterior parts. I need the right portion of the grille that goes around the headlight and supports the front turn signal (right side). Any ideas of where I can find this part?
Thanks,

Any one else with no carpet hear a chain sound going down the road? I'm just curious of my tcase should be that loud without the carpet or if the chain is stretched. Doesn't sound like grinding but I can hear it for sure.

Keep checking back if you don't see one - they pop up pretty often.

Good to know. I use shellac on cork, did not occur to me to use it for thermostat. Will have to get some for the garage, I have a habit of using what is on hand because the nearest store is 30 minutes away.
Does anybody out there have an Official Jeep Cherokee Powertrain Diagnostic Procedure Manual and/or the Chassis Diagnostic Procedure Manual? Reason I ask is that I have the opportunity to buy those 2 and the Service Manual, for an '01, and while I own an '00 close enough. Thing though I already have the Service Manual for an '01 that I got for free. While I also have a PDF in my computer for the Service Manual having a hard copy is nice. I can't find anywhere online to even look at these books to determine if I want them.

quick question
reinstalling my blower motor tonight, but the new one came without a plug. so I will cut the old one and splice it in the new blower motor. now the wire colors don't match, in one case being a green and black wire, and the other a red and black.
i can go through the trouble of wiring it and seeing which direction it spins, but to save that trouble can someone tell me if green (from harness) to red (from the new motor) and black to black, or the other way around.
cheers
