I can, not sure I'll see much there. Any idea how much slack is acceptable if I can get my finger in there to touch it?

Here's what I alluded to.

Note that this bezel does not have the thick horizontal bar across the top:

and the 1990 (at least mine) uses this one with the horizontal bar.

Worse, many suppliers will use the second photo for their auction, but send the one you see in the first picture.

I have a few of the wrong ones laying around.

So their the great and powerful one's that make terrific recommendactions haga? That tire is a hybrid mt/at. I have them on my truck. Good tire but you said for your driving style. Your style didn't sound like you needed a mud tire. I stick with the bfg ko2 for you.

I swear by Goodyear Wranglers. In my opinion a good all around tire.

Hit a snag. The threaded rod portion of the ebrake tensioner was rusted and had to be cut to remove the equalizer and cables. Problem is my setup on my 91 isn't like everything else where you can just take the little "hat" off the lever cable, throw a long carriage bolt in it, and use new nuts to replicate the tensioner. I just have a rod that runs inside a box under the body. Box nuts are rusted tight.

I have two ideas to try and make this work. Idea one involves making a jig to hold the rod (1/4 rod) and drill two small holes through it. Take one of those extended nut connectors, drill two holes equally in one side, then use cotter pins to hold that onto the rod. Concern is the shear strength of 1/16 pins.

Idea 2 is just try and cut new threads on the rod with a die. But I can't get it in a vise to hold still. Worried that will FUBAR the new threads.

Thoughts?

All terrain passenger tires will air down well for sand and have a better on-road ride than full-flotation (30", 31" etc.) truck tire of the same make. Also less expensive.
I chose Cooper Discoverer AT3 for deep sand beach driving.

The cooper's are great tires as well. If op went this route he would be happy as well. Now the goodyear wranglers mentioned earlier in this thread, well...

Might be blasphemy, but my $80/pop Wrangler Radials have been great tires. Granted, they've only seen snow/winter duty, but I've been very pleased! No doubt better tires are out there, but a good cost conscious alternative nonetheless.

Great budget tire. Last awhile. But take them off pavement and report back haha. The op is looking for a tire that will help in the sand. The wranglers aren't taking you anywhere in sand haha

Meh... they're alright. The cheapy Wrangler Radials you get from WalMart anyway.... personally, I liked the Goodyear Wrangler RT/Ss I had better than the Wrangler Radials - and the tread on the RT/Ss were less aggressive. Just seemed to work better in sand and even mud.... they balanced better, rode better, and they had a higher load and pressure capacity than the Wrangler Radials. I'm all about doing things on a budget, but you definitely get what you pay for.

The Cooper Cobras that were on the Jeep when I got it were great tires. They rode great, wore evenly, and they actually were pretty surprising offroad for a street tire.
