hello,

i have an 01. I just recently went to rausch creek. I killed my alternator. We swapped in a new one and all was well. made it 200 miles home. took the old alternator to advanced and they said it was bad. they checked my battery and said it was good. had 13 volts and scored like 650 out of 700 or something. so now my issue is when i start the jeep the battery gauge shows around 12 volts. starts fine no issue. after running for a few minutes and moving ( pulled out of the driveway) the battery gauge pegs at 9 and check gauges light comes on. i drive for a few miles. i turned the jeep off and then back on. check gauges light gone. and battery gauge back to 14. i turn around and drive a few miles home with no issues.

at a complete loss for whats going on.. any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to the wonderfulness that is shock barpins. Mine have been doing that for years... haven't fixed them. Get a set of Bar-Pin Eliminators like these - http://www.carid.com/jks-manufacturi...WrxBoCS7bw_wcB

they compress the bushings and keep that "clunk" from happening.

Not sure on the 2000, but the earlier models had zerk fittings on that joint at the front of the transfer case. Just about impossible to lube without a grease needle, a lift, or by detaching the front shaft at the front of the transfer case and lowering it down.

Weird, got unsubscribed somehow

XJwonders the 231 and 242 use the same input gear. If within the same generation they'll have the same gear anyway. Exception of course if you're trying to bolt up to an AX-15. 242 only came behind the slushbox. See Novak's input gear chart. I think the year break was 1991.

94XjSport94 did you fix your TPS/IAC/wiring yet? Is that stuff and the CCV clear? This is just at idle right?

So I ran my vin thru the decoder and it shows up as a police package, however everything Iv read about the police package doesn't sound like my jeep, why would it show up as police package if it isn't?

If you get a build sheet, you'll see each RPO code, and it'll tell you every detail about your vehicle. Over time, some if those RPO codes get reused, and Chrysler doesn't keep track. It's possible that a newer vehicle has a police package which uses the same RPO as one of your Jeep's identifiers

Trailer wire harness problems. Have 11+ volts from tail light lead. Only 5+ on one, and 6+ on other (yel/grn) Does the XJ have some kind of "box" in a plug+play harness that can go bad? Still repairing splice in harness underneath, won't have time to noggin poke as son leaves for work in a bit.

2000 XJ

Because no question is to stupid....

I will need to change my tires on a stock 01 Cherokee, what size and brand you think can be good for mostly, daily commute and sometimes play outside? (in 15" I guess).

(I have A LOT to learn)

And learn you shall!

235/75R15 is the largest size ou can fit on stock suspension with ZERO modification or issues. 30" tires can be made to fit but you have to live with trimming, rubbing, and/or new rims.

As for brand, well, there are tons of those. What sort of climate are you in? What is your tolerance for road noise, what do you want to play in? Mud, rocks, and sand are very different.

I am very happy with my Goodyear Duratracs but they are a lot louder than an all-terrain. Particularly at optimal cruising speed. I have a 100 KM round-trip commute so this annoys me.

Lastly some 2001 XJs shipped with 16" rims. May want to check

When I bought my 5 speed, there was 30" tires on original sagging suspension. Didn't have any issues with rubbing and such.
