Either get a Detours Backbone, push bar, or a real bumper imo. Even tube is better.

A couple xj newbie questions:
1) Front wheel bearings: are these a sealed unit with the hub ??? I read the tech write-up about replacing front axle u-joints and it doesn't say anything about servicing the bearings while it is apart. I'm only familiar with the older full size chevy/ford etc axles with the locking hubs, where you have to take the double nuts and bearings out to get to the hollow spindle and axle.
2) Rear axle: I looked at one of the reference charts and thought I must have a D35, but it has a threaded fill plug (3/8" square hole for socket drive) so it must a D30 or D44, right ???

So you have a stubby? I like the way they look and haven't gone on anything where my factory bumper has touched anything.

This is mostly correct - ASSUMING your jeep is 4wd, the above it correct - the unit-bearings aren't serviceable.... however, if you have the misfortune of having a 2wd jeep without ABS, you have spindle bearings and they are serviceable - just like any other 2wd veh with spindles.
Yes, 4wd - why else buy a jeep ?

Where do you wheel in MD? I'm in school by Pittsburgh with a good amount of rocks but will be residing once I graduate in a few weeks in DE where it seems to mostly be Mud (not a huge fan of mud) but do want to make yearly trips to Rausch.
i'm in the process of replacing my harmonic balancer and i think i stripped the thread inside the shaft by about 1 or 2 threads..... the new pulley is about 1/4" from being flush against the crankshaft. is it possible to use the original bolt to screw it in the rest of the way?
also what can i use to stop the crankshaft from turning? i don't have a top dead center bolt

In Maryland? In my buddy's back yard. We drive to Rausch or out to Virginia

Nice, are you close to DE by any chance? I remember you saying you were willing to drive up to NJ for my Dad's J10. I'm thinking about with a stubby welding some angle iron to make give it some header protection while not taking away from the look. I would think angle iron would be easier and stronger than just welding tube.
