Anyone get a stubby bumper and regret it? I'm really liking Dirtbound's but slightly worried of the header panel.

I haven't but I've seen lots of pics of Jeeps who's owners who probably did...

Either get a Detours Backbone, push bar, or a real bumper imo. Even tube is better.

Yes - but they'll probably rub some without at least trimming some of the metal that your flares mount to. You can get away with doing the cutting required for Bushwacker flares and still bolt your factory flares back on. This is what I did before I went ahead and trimmed it the rest of the way up. Gives you quite a bit more tire clearance.

1) Front wheel bearings: are these a sealed unit with the hub ??? I read the tech write-up about replacing front axle u-joints and it doesn't say anything about servicing the bearings while it is apart. I'm only familiar with the older full size chevy/ford etc axles with the locking hubs, where you have to take the double nuts and bearings out to get to the hollow spindle and axle.

2) Rear axle: I looked at one of the reference charts and thought I must have a D35, but it has a threaded fill plug (3/8" square hole for socket drive) so it must a D30 or D44, right ???

Are u talking about front axle or rear? Both Dana 35 and Chrysler 8.25 used rubber plug.

If u were talking about the front. It is Dana 30 but if u were talking about the rear axle that had threaded plug then it's Dana 44
This is mostly correct - ASSUMING your jeep is 4wd, the above it correct - the unit-bearings aren't serviceable.... however, if you have the misfortune of having a 2wd jeep without ABS, you have spindle bearings and they are serviceable - just like any other 2wd veh with spindles.

So you have a stubby? I like the way they look and haven't gone on anything where my factory bumper has touched anything.

Then don't worry about it. I'd annihilate my header panel if I ran a stubby bumper on my XJ, so I wouldn't consider one

Where do you wheel in MD? I'm in school by Pittsburgh with a good amount of rocks but will be residing once I graduate in a few weeks in DE where it seems to mostly be Mud (not a huge fan of mud) but do want to make yearly trips to Rausch.

i'm in the process of replacing my harmonic balancer and i think i stripped the thread inside the shaft by about 1 or 2 threads..... the new pulley is about 1/4" from being flush against the crankshaft. is it possible to use the original bolt to screw it in the rest of the way?

also what can i use to stop the crankshaft from turning? i don't have a top dead center bolt

Interesting side note... I have a 93 2wd that I presume doesn't have abs (fanciest thing that thing has is power steering) and it has a non-servicable assembly for the front bearing. Weirdest thing I'd seen in a while. No idea what in the world the P.O. was up to with it.

Nice, are you close to DE by any chance? I remember you saying you were willing to drive up to NJ for my Dad's J10. I'm thinking about with a stubby welding some angle iron to make give it some header protection while not taking away from the look. I would think angle iron would be easier and stronger than just welding tube.
