should the 4x4 shifter have play in 2h? i was wondering if this play means my shifter linkage is off and needs to be adjusted. Jeep is having trouble shifting out of 4h

Hey now, I wasn't bashing; I was just making legitimate comparisons. Subaru makes some awesome cars. Didn't mean to come across demeaning. I'm seriously considering getting a KL when it comes to the point that I can afford one.

I did also try to help answer the question... thought I had some good points.

That's awesome, I'll have to remember that. I obviously didn't know.

The drive train is completely different. Basically they brought back the Cherokee name because they wanted to tap into the cult following the older Cherokees has gathered.
I'm sorry sir, but I have to correct you. The 1984-2001 have a thicker-gage sheet metal "Uniframe" that is welded to the underside of the body. Thus the basis for the term "Unibody". The Cherokee has no "frame that is closer to a truck frame" unless your speaking of its full-size predecessor.

I, for one, lol at people who purchase new Cherokees.

Mainly to cover up the fact that I can't afford a new Cherokee

There's bushings in the linkage. Time for some noggin pokin.

Are you shifting it correctly?

Here's how the factory suggests you shift the transfer case and I've been doing this since these things were new and I worked at the dealership. Quoted from the owner's manual. The suggestions in CAPS are mine.

"To engage, shift the transfer case lever from 2H to 4H while the vehicle is moving at any legal speed". I LET OFF THE GAS, THROW THE LEVER, TAP THE GAS AND LET OFF.

4L position: " To engage, slow the vehicle to 2-3 MPH , shift the transmission to Neutral, then shift the transfer lever to the right and pull firmly rearward to 4L".

TO SHIFT OUT OF 4L, SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION INTO NEUTRAL WITH THE VEHICLE STOPPED, SHIFT THE TRANSFER CASE LEVER TO 2H, THEN THE TRANS TO D IF YOU HAVE AN AUTOMATIC, OR INTO FIRST GEAR WITH A MANUAL, AND CONTINUE ON.

I didn't think you were bashing either.

99% of what I do is city driving. I want to upgrade headlights. Do I have to get the harness upgrade or can I get by with just purchasing Sylvania Silverstars (or whatever light the kids are getting these days)?

Do JUST the harness and you will be impressed and your headlight switch will be unlikely to ever burn out.

Cruiser is correct. Start with the harness and it will bring up the voltage to the headlights and take the load off the switch. But if you gonna start to climb a mountain, reach for the peak. Get some hella e code headlights and maybe some 80/100w bulbs too, aim properly and youre golden

Thanks guys. Will the putco harness suffice or is there a better not too much more expensive option other than building my own?
