I have a noise in the rear diff. It's kind of a low pitch sound, and not raspy or a growl. And it's not a whine like gears make when the mesh is changing from something worn.
Anyone ever jacked the rear up & run it in gear to check what the noise might be ?? Maybe it wont make any noise without a load on it (?) And it's not loud either. Maybe I'm too **** about it.
It doesn't sound like wheel bearings, and eases off a bit when letting up on the gas pedal.
I haven't really checked the pinion for having any looseness or side play etc, and there aren't any lube leaks. I checked lube level a while ago, and it was full.
One thought is carrier bearings. ( that would suck )
Meanwhile, I'm replacing the radio with a Pioneer CD radio. More fun....

Bad bearings make excessive heat, maybe an infra-red temp gun can help diagnose a 'hot spot'. After driving the highway, pumpkin should be around 135 F.
FYI. The 8.25 rear end has a small passageway on passenger side, this allows oil to reach the pinion bearing. If pinion angle is too steep, bearing can starve of oil.

Tried search with no luck. Never had select trak before, so my question is how SHOULD it act in 4ft? And how do y'all check to see if the xfer case is working right? For example: if you were looking to buy a Cherokee, how would you check out the 4wd stuff. Especially by yourself, and no good dirt around.
Thanks in advance to all the Wizards of Wheeling

Isn't there some grass around?
I can run 60mph in Full-Time without noise or rattles.

I see..
In that case, something is wrong. Have you checked the chain to see if it is dragging on case? And check the output-shaft bearing and pinion bearing?
I can run 60mph in Part-Time on the beach without noise or rattles from the transfer case.

My rear wiper is not working. Fuse is good. Cant see any problems with the wiring.
I have the wiper motor out.
There are four wires from the motor to the clip. Black, Brown, Grey and White. They lead to a relay attached to the motor.
How do I test to see if the relay is bad or the motor or both.

Well, since I have a 4.0 harmonic balancer on a 258 crankshaft in my stroker, I'd have to say probably.
