XJ Ask the Question Thread
Hello my name is kyle and i just picked up a 1999 jeep cherokee sport 4 door, it has 35 inch tires and a 6.5" short arm rough country lift, and im new to jeeps and idk a lot about them but i was wondering if somone could shine some insight on why the "full time" light will stay on but sometimes shut off and/or flicker and also makes a weird noise in the front of the vehicle when i give it gas but only when its in gear?

I've got a LOUD squeak that I've been chasing for some time, I've changed the alternator, idler pulley, and water pump. The terrible sound is coming right from the front, center of the engine right at the water pump. So I'm thinking it's the water pump pulley. I know it doesn't have bearings, but I've changed the belt, and the same groove that was worn in my old one returned to my new belt, with the squeak which had stopped for a day or so with the new belt. I'm wondering if that pulley could cause such a crazy loud noise first of all...and second, when I look for this part, it keeps returning this crown "fan pulley" (53010309) which is said to mount on the water pump. But the actual mopar water pump pulley(53002907) that i found looks to have a larger center opening. I want to know if the crown pulley is the same; or if it'll work.
That groove is troublesome, find the source and fix it. If you think its the water pump then replace the water pump. Its all one unit thats not worth servicing.
Pretty much indefinite as long as it's not abused. Most people just go straight for the gaskets without touching the pump or the bottom end. If your engine is in good shape I'd be fine leaving it.
Yes leaving the battery out for a while should dump the codes. The TPS internals getting wet is the real problem - it'll take a few days to dry out at a good temperature. If you've got a heat gun or hair dryer you could give that a shot.
Use your accessories, sensors, flywheel/flex plate and manifolds. You'll need to plug the hole in the back of head where the old temperature sending unit lived otherwise it'll shoot coolant everywhere

How does your harmonic balancer look? Theres two separate parts that are attached by rubber to help reduce vibrations, rubber wears out over time and causes part of the balancer to hit the belt just right, and it squeals. My old jeep was affectionately dubbed "squirrel mobile" in my childhood.

Friend bought a 2001 Jeep Cherokee.
Oil pressure guage reads 0 or really low and the CEL and Check Gauges comes on. The Jeep runs fine and seems like it's getting oil just fine.
What's the sensor that needs replacing?

So I asked around once about axles and gear ratios, but I'll try a different tactic, I might get harassed for the thread hijack, but I was wondering if anyone wanted to have my 3.55:1 Dana 30&35 off of a renix era Cherokee (with vacuum motors) in trade for their otherwise identical 3.08:1/3.07:1 axles. These ratios are great for big tires but I do a lot of highway miles with 30" or smaller tires and could use the stock 5-speed gearing. (my xj is ax15 swapped)
