Best, most clear source is the battery. Other sources may create interference. The ground should be as short as possible, up to a foot.

My ground is short (maybe 6-8"). I had thought about an interference issue but figured I'd mostly get that through the coax running to the ant.

That's correct. You also want to ground the mount to the body. Make sure you have good metal to metal contact on the ground.

OK guys...thanks for the skinny on the UN-threaded rear end cover.! I'll remove it, change the lube, and run some threads in that hole. Probably don't need to fool with it, but a rubber plug !!!
My brother was a foreman there when my Jeep was built, so I'll chastise him about cheap crap from Chrysler

If you are going to run more accessories and the CB radio, you might consider adding another small fusebox straight from the battery. There are quite a few accessories that you might want to have constant power to, and the extra fusebox would make it easier to add them...or clean up what you may already have.

So, I went change the diff oil today...and accomplished the rear diff, no sweat. It had a very smart plug with a recessed square that matched my 3/8" socket wrench perfectly.

The front diff, not so easy. It has a 9/16" square ****. The only 9/16" open end wrench I have is too short to get any leverage on the bolt..and it is in there tight. It is in such an awkward spot that I cant rig up some sort of breaker bar to help with it either.

Anyone know a sneaky way to get this dumb bolt out without having to buy some specialty tool?

Turn your wheels straight so the tie rod is furthest away, use a socket wrench.

I think it is a Dana 44, and it has a plug like this in the pic. It is a 9/16" protruding square and all I have that fits it is a 9/16" open ended wrench. I hammered on it with no success. Cranked on it with my weakling strength, with no success....and I couldn't come up with a cheater bar solution to work with the little wrench I have. :/

I might try an adjustable wrench tomorrow...

That pic is not my differential. I was assuming that the diff was a d30 until I started trying to find a pic of the type of plug on mine and the pics online that seemed to most closely look like the one I have were the d44s. I am not certain though and solid axles are not my specialty.

How would I find out for sure?

How can I get the darn bolt off? lol! The rear diff was easy cus it had the recessed 3/8" square that my socket wrench fit right into...

You got an xj right.....? Stock is a d30..and if you bought it pretty stock or with a small lift I highly doubt anyone dropped the cheddar to swap a D44 in

Is there a socket that will fit on a 9/16" square post?
