The original was broken. Someone tried to fix it with jb weld. I found it when i went to replace the o ring. I searched and couldnt find the OEM part anywhere. I found where someone else upgraded to what im using but i think they didnt have the canister in there

Hm. That is a very akward place for the charcoal canister on a Renix. Later years have a slimmer one up near the firewall, where the coolant pressure bottle is, and a coolant reservoir fits neatly over the shock stud.

It's fine if you leave the oil filter mounted where it was designed to go...........

So superseding NGK spark plugs in place of Champions is good, but correcting the mounting of the filter for less likelihood of dry starts is bad... uhhuh

It's on the list amongst getting the Heep back on the road, fixing the Golf, this year's garden, tending to the non-profit I volunteer for, Scouts stuff, spring cleaning, and all these bloody pages. Maybe when I get my wisdom teeth cut out I'll think about it. That'll be a nice percocet-filled post.

Have you considered installing that stroker in anything? I think your son's keeping the MJ for good...

I could never find the bolt/stud thing than ran through the housing and screwed into the block. Looked like someone overtightened it and snapped that washser/flange deal at the bolt head. They caked jb weld around it to fix it. Quality...

Correct. I searched the net for a few days actually and couldnt ever find a new one. Tired local part stores. They all just tried to sell me a relocation kit. I ordered the parts from my local dealer. They said the couldnt find the older housing/bolt. Thats why i went with the newer style. Think i paid $80 for all parts.

Is $2,200 an typical estimate for parts and labor to regear both axles? $800 in parts, then 8-10 hours labor per axle?

Not uncommon, but you should be able to find a better price. Try a specialty offroad shop.

Ive seen rates anywhere from 400-800 per axle. Sounds about right as long as its a very reputable shop.
