I found my 242 to be quite picky about having even sized tires - for years it took ages to shift, but once I put 4 even tires on it now shifts absolutely perfectly.

A little bit. Doing it this way works every time on mine.



Here's how the factory suggests you shift the transfer case and I've been doing this since these things were new and I worked at the dealership. Quoted from the owner's manual.

"To engage, shift the transfer case lever from 2H to 4H while the vehicle is moving at any legal speed". I let off the gas, throw the lever, and then tap the gas and let off.

4L position: " To engage, slow the vehicle to 2-3 MPH , shift the transmission to Neutral, then shift the transfer lever to the right and pull firmly rearward to 4L".

The new linkages in the Vendor Section for the 242 should help that.

I have a p0740 code -

I replaced the torgue converter but it still does not lock up every time I get to highway speeds -

when it does not engage the code pops up again

-please advise

This may not be the fix, could be the wiring or solenoid but,

I wiped the oil off, this is the first oil changed since the accident. I've been doing it every 3500 miles. I use penzoil and a stp filter. Changing the oil right now.

idk if its the picture or not. That oil looks thick is why i was curious.

idk how true it still is. I heard that the original formula for pennzoil was sludge waiting to happen. This came out of the west though, but since then i dont use it. maybe change to rotella and mopar/wix/napa gold filter

I thought about it, but the jeep runs fine so I'm not sure. When i had the oil pan off it was alright.

STP = FRAM

Are you losing any coolant? That doesn't really look like oil to me, unless you have a MAJOR sludge problem.
