That box back there scares me. so the evap can is back there, that means there's vaccum lines running all the way back there? I honestly don't know what exactly an evap canister does.
I've asked before if anyone has a schematic of what all runs in/out and what resides in that box, no one every responds lol.

While looking this up I discovered there's no electrical to that thing. Must be the fuel pump making that whining noise. Great...

Alright so I got a CEL... went to autozone a few days later to get it checked and it was code 420... not sure if that was all of it.. being a smartass trying to crack a joke I told the guy not to print it out because it was easy enough to remember.. he said it was PROBABLY a bad cat... anyway, question is this: is there anything else I should try first?
I have also heard that if you can find a recycling center that will take them, cats can be recycled for a good bit... is that true? If so that'd help me recoup the cost of buying a new one, and my dad is registered with the local recycling place, so they'll take anything with no questions... I heard that's something they did to cut down on people stealing copper or something. Not sure, that's what I was told.

Most junkyards or regular scrapers will pay for cats. How much you get depends on the condition, how much precious metal it contains, and your location. Jeeps use a pretty basic cat. Around here in NY they will pay $20-100. I got $40 for the one off my parts Comanche a few months ago.
Wish I could find the link of people stealing cats from a VW dealership. If I remember right, those cats were $1,000+. That's why scrapers record your info down.
I have no idea about the code you got. I don't mess with OBD.

Platinum, strontium, and palladium. All three are more valuable than gold, and many scrapyards stopped taking cats because people were cutting them off cars by the dozens for a paycheck.
