They charge old lady's $600 for a brake job. Unless you know some good people it could be exspensive.

You might find a shop that would take the leftovers as a partial payment... just a thought.

I'm having issues with my trailer lights. My XJ came with out a light hook up or hitch, but I've added both. My problem is that without a trailer attached, everything works fine. But with a trailer plugged in, the turn signals blink really fast (faster than if I had a burnt bulb). If I hit the brakes, they flash the way they should until I let off the pedal. I am at a loss as to what could be causing the problem. This is the light adapter box I'm using:

Any help Is GREATLY appreciated.

Do the lights also seem dim? If so, change your blinker flasher to a heavy duty one. I had same prob. This fixed it. Be sure to change blinker flasher and not hazard flasher. They are different.

So, I feel a little dumb now. I installed a heavy duty flasher on friday, but I put it in the hazard spot. I just changed it. I'll test it tomorrow to see if that fixed it. Thanks.

I am sure most mechanics would bill for 10+ hours but this sort of swap is something you could do in phases and still keep on the road if need be and I understand not having the time go get things done

Your question would probably get better responses on a forum where people deal with jeep LIBERTY as that is what the "Cherokee" that they sell over seas really is, try jeep forum, I don't know if there is really a dedicated liberty forum. Most people here have a Cherokee xj or a grand Cherokee not a liberty.

JeepForum.com has a sub-forum dedicated to the KJ and KK Liberties

I'm super new to working on my Jeep, actually to working on any truck or car at all so please bear with me.

No stupid questions right?

OK, so I'm trying to buy the basic tools and then build upon that but I don't even really know where to start. I have a corded drywall gun, impact driver, screwdrivers, circular saw, etc. for like general contracting but for mechanics I got nothin.

I'm thinking socket set and wrenches first, obviously, but even then where do I start? Like... 1/4 or 3/8 driver? or 1/2?? Apparently there are allot of types of wrenches... I always just used the same 5/8 old one from my dads toolbox to change my oil and a leather belt for the oil filter and the rest was someone else's problem. I've been reading non stop and there are some things I would really like to do and think I can do without too much trouble (thanks to CF and the tech write ups) but I don't have even the basic tools.

Thanks for bearing with this newbie.

man that's like a pandora's box for people's opinions. The basic tools that I would recommend are: wrench sets (standard and metric) socket set with 1/4 and 3/8 drives (best to buy a small suitcase kit), 12" adjustable wrench, 6 in 1 screwdriver, set of extensions for your sockets, ball pin hammer, 5 lb sledge, rubber mallet, torque bit set (jeeps have a lot of annoying torque head bolts), vice grips, wire strippers, wire cutters, crowbar, a propane torch, and a can of WD-40 or PB blaster. Thats all i can think of off the top of my head. i keep all that in my jeep at all times. (i dont break down lol) When i started off the same way, i just bought tools as i needed them. You can go a lot heavier but i think you'll be good for a while with those basic tools.

Im kind of in the same boat. I alwaysvused my dads tools and over the years they've kind of became our tools because I've been adding to the madness.

I need my own set for my garage though.

So I figured I'm going to start with good sockets probably 3/8 drive, get metric and standard and doubles, then get wrenches metric standard, doubles. Then move down to 1/4 drive get metric, standard, doubles. Then work on some accessories for all the ratchets and all like extensions, adapters, specialty sockets etc. Then get some good breaker bars and move up to 3/4 drive.

Its just a start. Next would be the "other tools " pliers, cutters, needle noses, hammers of all sorts.

Really I would say after you get the basics its just a matter of buying as you need it. My dads tools are a collection of about 30yrs only about 10 of which I've been adding too. However someone broke in and stole all of his speciality tools (they were in a seperate box) when we were in between houses.

In conclusion just start buying tools. Then get a toolbox.

It only happens when the Jeep has been running for awhile and is warmed up. Also, I can only hear it with the windows up and the radio off. It's like a tap tap tap noise which sounds like its coming from underneath the driver side floor or maybe a little further up. It does not matter if I'm in park, neutral, or whatever. As soon as I give it any gas, the noise goes away. It is intermittent as well. Sometimes it seems louder than others. Originally, I thought it was the flexplate bolts. Yesterday I took of the inspection cover but for some reason one of the big bolts faces the exhaust so I am unable to pull it completely out. I just slid my wrench up and checked the one visible bolt and it seemed tight. I may try and get to all of them sometime this week. But before I do again, any other ideas? Thanks
i say 90% of the time it's the flexplate bolts in this case - tighten them all and see if it comes back. If it does the flexplate itself could be cracked and need replacement.
