yes, I jus use the e-brake. I did notice that it wouldnt shift correctly into 4wheel low. Not sure if that has something to do with it. I guess I was kinda hoping that this was a common problem

this may sound odd, but how is the condition of your motor mounts? I'm betting you either have bad motor mounts, or possibly a bad tranny mount that is keeping the linkages from lining up correctly.

Default starting problem

long story short. i found out that my positive wire running from the battery to the starter was bad so i got 10 gauge wire and doubled it up and ran it along side the stock one. now it fires up every time. thats my two cents. thank you. its not a permanent fix but it will hold until you have time and or money to fix it right.

SSOOOO i have a 91 it has a vaccum shift diaphram. The fork is moving all the way over to left and right it is functioning right. My dif fluid is full. I have vaccuum pressure so it cant unshift. But when i put it in 4 high it goes zzzzzzzzz. then sometimes the front tire will spin and my 4 wheel drive will work for a minute then it goes back to zzzzzzzzz. Any ideas?

ya, ditch that cad stuff. i removed the the CAD assembly from the axle, removed the Eclip on the shaft, slide the fork over and reinstalled that Eclip... doing this locks the halves together and pretty much disables the CAD.

There's a right up floating around somewhere.

No, it cannot. You need front glass from a 1984-1996 XJ

Try this first: http://www.lunghd.com/Tech_Articles/...leDiscoFix.htm

The vacuum disconnect axle system in early XJs is very problematic. Most people just get rid of the system altogether. You have 2 options:

1) remove the vacuum shift assembly completely, install a 1-piece axle on the passenger side to replace the 2-piece one you have now from a 1993-1999 XJ, install new seals, and block off the hole. This will make it identical to the design of later XJs. Warn makes a kit for this, but it requires a good bit of mechanical knowledge.
http://www.stu-offroad.com/axle/yjd3...jconvert-1.htm
http://www.madxj.com/MADXJ/technical...97andSeals.htm (not to replace the CAD system, but a step-by-step guide to replacing the stock seals)

2) install a manual shift lock cable to replace the vacuum operated system. You would have to manually pull the cable to engage the axle when using 4x4. This is a MUCH easier solution than #1.
Commercial Product, just plug and play: http://www.quadratec.com/products/52435_00.htm
Or do it yourself: http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f12/h...ite-up-595515/
