gonna bring this back up,,I just ordered a new manifold, 02 sensor, and MAP sensor. But was wondering why my current 02 sensor which is cut doesn't make the check engine light come on. And the bulb does work, when I turn the key first thing it lights up and will the go off after starting it. Also, I don't see any cut wires. Under dash or fuse box. Only wire cut is the 02 sensor wire about 3 inches off the sensor PS. This is a 93 XJ so it only had the upstream 02 sensor, if that helps at all.

Anybody?

What do you guys run in your xjs for a electric fan swap? I'm currently running a right hand drive electric fan in place of my clutch fan but it's not cutting it over here in az in the summer... Any suggestions?

My first question is, Why do you want an electric fan instead of a clutch fan?

My second question is, there's several write ups on this topic and people say what they use. Did you look around at those yet?

Default Brake upgrades?

I was wondering what are some good brake upgrades you guys run? I'm running 32x11.5x15 Goodyear MTRKs on 15x8 w/4.5"bs steelies and I knew XJ brakes are crap to begin with and I'd have more rotational mass to stop, but I didn't think it would be that hard on my stopping distance. Really have to plan 3 or 4 cars ahead and almost rear ended someone who cut me off when slamming on the brakes. Right now I have stock drums, pads, and rotors (NAPA or CarQuest I think) that are about a year old now. I know about and plan to do either the ZJ rear disk mod, or if I'm lucky enough to find, do the KJ 8.25 disk mod because IIRC it's a direct bolt on to the XJ 8.25. Do you guys run preformance brakes setups? Drilled and slotted and all that, or just go bigger in size? Any other vehicle front brakes worth an upgrade from the XJs? I have V8 ZJ steering on mine as well.

Just do rear discs with Hawk pads front and rear.

Thanks Cruiser! Seem pretty pricey, but I bet they're well worth it. I'll look into those.

Anybody want to give me a recommendation? I'm farting around with the idea of buying a crate motor (stock) and switching out mine.

My engine is 25 yrs old, is way up there in the miles, and leaks as much as you would expect of a 25 yr. old motor.

It quit running on me the other day, which I think was caused by the timing chain jumping a link. I've got a set of gears and the chain here because I was anticipating having the problem.

I'm pulling the front off today to check things out. But, the idea popped into my head that maybe it's time to drop a new engine in there.

Any comments on crate engines? Where to get one, and a ball park price?

Suggestions or comments are welcome.

I put Centric Premium rotors and calipers on both my cars, with good quality pads, they work great and they feel great. http://www.shop.blackmagicbrakes.com...0-1998_c48.htm with the full kit.

Buy a compression gauge and get the numbers first. Might be simpler to do a rebuild than a full swap. Also presents an opportunity for a low-budget stroker that doesn't require special handling.

Any junkyards down there? I was able to find a low-mileage 99 in a salvage warehouse for $500.

Otherwise they are all pretty much the same and the big question is who will give you the best warranty if there is a problem

An 09 XJ, huh? Idk what you drive, but I'll assume you got the year right. This section won't be of much help, we have other sections for other vehicles, WJ, KL, etc. that will be more specific.
