My engine makes a hell of a knocking racket. What's the effectiveness of replacement of the rod bearings? Already done flexplate, etc. It's a noise down in the motor, and it speeds up a bit before disappearing, possibly due to oil pressure? Otherwise I'm just running it till it blows.

If it's really that bad, it's probably not going to do you much good to spend the time & money to do the rod bearings if you're not going to do the cam bearings as well. I believe they are oiled by the pump first, so if the rod bearings are bad, the cam bearings most likely are also.

Probably piston slap.

RTD (Run To Destruction). Wait for the rod to come thru the crankcase, then it's motor time.

While you're poking around pull the inspection cover from the bottom of the bell housing and see if it looks like something was scraping. Also check the bottom bell housing-to-engine block bolts for security. Uppers too, if you can see them.
I'll give those a check. Refresh my memory, its been a couple of years, when looking at the inspection hole, which way am I suppose to spin the TC to inspect the whole wheel. Clockwise or counter clockwise?

Can anyone remember what their fuel pump sounds like when the ignition key is turned to the "on" position only. Been so long since I paid any attention, I honestly can't remember...

Kind of like when you were a kid and your dad was out of town. Your mom thought you were finally asleep then, "vrrmmmmmmmmm". You sneeze, then it shuts off in an instant.

Yeah that's the other option. I have good oil pressure but just by the gauge. It hasn't gotten worse in 20k, it just is noisy.

01 xj auto 4x4. When jeep goes from 3rd to 4th gear, I get this metallic rattling noise when about 2kish rpm. If I ease up on the accelerator, it goes away. It isn't always speed dependant. Usually shifts into 4th at 45 mph. In N and P no noise. Only under load. I've googled and what I've seen is this happening on manual transmission. No issues stated for aw4s.

Thanks in advance. Tried to be as descriptive as possible.
Flex plate bolts loose?

Just for information's sake, what does the vacuum canister do?

For a bit of background, I've got a bone basic 2wd 93 Cherokee that had to have several vacuum lines disconnected for the last two months or so. I heard a leak and reattached everything, but had no noticeable change.

I know the reservoir does something with cruise control and the heat. Is there anything else it actually does? Just curious...
