XJ Ask the Question Thread
Thought let you know you were right on the years, in '97 they changed the hinges on the lift gate. To report, hit the JY today and had 5 Jeeps as options from '91-'96. I pulled from a '96, it was in the best shape. No cracks, clean as a whistle. So I took it and ran, came with the rear wiper motor, glass (defrost) which mine never had(knew mine was equipped with the proper wiring and spaces for the defrost and rear wiper switch, so grabbed them as well) out the door spent 100.00. More than happy and thanks for the reply.

is it safe to say that being lifted 4"s will allow me to use my stock D35 driveshaft when swapping in a 8.25? I've heard mixed things but most that I have read in discussion were around or under 3"s and it was still hit/miss.

I went from a dana 35 to a Chrysler 8.25 at 2" and my stock driveshaft fit 100% perfectly.

No. It's done because what they did in the manufacturing of the distributors was wrong!!! It caused so many issues that they put out a TSB on it. paying the dealers to index the distributors correctly.
.Distributor indexing explained
Tip 13 gets the thing right. Use Tip 12 first to guarantee you're on #1 TDC.

But to clarify a little more... I had a guy tell me the other day the truck would still run if the Dist. gear was off by one tooth. (we were talking about the upcoming dist. switch from old to new.
My response was I didn't think it would still run, because of how far off one gear tooth would place the timing, hence the original question.
And, for what it's worth, the truck has always "felt" like the timing wasn't quite right. I'm betting it will after I do the switch.
Can anyone help me with options to replace the front bench seat in a 1977 Cherokee. Either something available to purchase that could be installed with little or no modifications or some place that could make something custom. I'm in Delaware.

Makes sense to me. Easy enough to do as well.
