The AW4 changed quite a bit electronically. But everything will bolt up just fine.
So the 99 aw4 would work in my 91 with just some simple wire splicing? Sorry for all the questions just dont want to get into something that more effort than its worth.

Yeah just unplug ignition fuel and sensors from your 91 and install them in the 99, computer doesn't know the iron changed

For your gauge sender you can drill and tap a new hole or you can extend the wire up to your thermostat housing and draill and tap a hole there

I don't think the trans would be a direct swap because of output changes but I'm not sure

What's the filter underneath the jeep running along the side? Mine looks pretty old, wondering if changing it should be in my near future.

Probably the fuel filter I'm guessing.

That what I thought. But then I read a few times that the 98 had an internal fuel filter.

Default 97 vs 98 switch panel question

Hello, I've got a 97 Sport with rear wiper only in the switch panel. I picked up a 3 switch panel from a 1998 Classic at the JY today (wiper, defrost, fogs) and thought it would swap right in. The plugs for the switches all seem like a straight plug in, but the connectors for the lighter and Power Socket are different. Can the old sockets be swapped to the new panel? Can't figure out how to get them out and thought I'd ask before I break something . What I'd really like to do is end up with two power sockets if anyone knows how to go about that. Thanks!

Indeed it is, since 1997. This ugly little thing:

Is the charcoal canister, for catching gas fumes. No need to service it unless the PCM is complaining about it, although I imagine the bracket is horrifically rusty.

Negative. "Quite a few electronic changes" doesn't mean "They put new plugs on it just for fun". You basically need an aftermarket controller, or the appropriate model TCU to run one (which mandates the appropriate PCM). More details are here: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1053970

Engine is good for you for sure, the transmission you'd be better of selling.

Ah yes, the lighter and power sockets are indeed irritating. I was not aware the plugs changed! There are metal tabs on the rear of the sockets that press against the back of the switch panel. Depress them with a screwdriver, fingers, pliers, whatever, and the sockets will eventually come out the front of the panel.

You'll need to elaborate a bit on the "two power sockets"... the lighter and original sockets are the same, just on different circuits (one switched and one on the battery)

Any thoughts why my radio would turn off whenever I step on the brake? Comes on immediately after letting up on the brake. Any good way to tap into some other accessory power? If so which one? Doesn't seem to have any memory issues. I want to avoid having to remember to turn it off every time. 96 se
