Looking for opinions on a potential doner cherokee purchase. The XJ im looking at is a 2000 sport with 214,000 original miles. A rebuilt jasper motor was installed 50,000 ago and the new (not rebuilt) tranny has 85,000 on it. All receipts back up the sellers claims and match the carfax. I'm mostly interested in the drivetrain for my '97 project. Any opinions/warnings/positives u guys have concerning the jasper motor? The seller is asking $2000. Let me know what u think.

These things can be swapped, but it will require more work than simply pulling one block and installing the other.

Probably still has a weak 0331 casting head despite the rebuild, and the ignition system is entirely different. The '00 will have coil packs with the distributorless ignition system instead of the tradition distributor, cap, and rotor. I've heard good things overall about Jasper reman motors, but I've also heard they're a horrible company to deal with if you do have a problem. Their 3 year warranty doesn't mean very much in the real world, based on what I've read
Okay, now a question. I love Riddler diff covers, but I do recognize the drawback of a cast iron cover. I would rather have a dent than a crack. I'm looking at possibly getting a 14 Bolt rear, and I'll shave it a little if I do. This gives me two options that appeal to me: Under Cover Fabworks welded 14 Bolt Shaved Cover http://eastcoastgearsupply.com/i-626...ved-gears.html Crane 13 Bolt Cover http://www.torqaxle.com/Crane-13-Bolt-Cover_p_113.html Both remove the 14th bolt, which doesn't worry me, and both allow the bottom of the 14 Bolt to be shaved without heavy fab work, for about a 1" clearance gain. Should I be worried about the Crane 13 being cast even though it's made of chromoly, or should I trust that over the UCF welded steel cover?

I'm considering buying a 99 xj for a parts jeep. Mine is a 91. If I ever need to swap motors and or transmissions will this be more hassle than it's worth? Both are aw4 and I already know I'll have to reuse the 91 electronics or use all of the 99's stuff. What else am I over looking. I tried google but was not very successful.

Would I be possible/easier to reuse the 91's obd1 stuff? If so, would the 99 motor bolt up to the 91 aw4? I read somewhere about something being different but not sure if that was good info or not. Thanks!

Yep. I threw a coat of primer and a coat of paint on it, and I had no problems. Just be careful if yours has a seams (my Comanche tank did) cause they'll be razor sharp. I sliced my hand pretty deep

The AW4 changed quite a bit electronically. But everything will bolt up just fine.
