Looking for opinions on a potential doner cherokee purchase. The XJ im looking at is a 2000 sport with 214,000 original miles. A rebuilt jasper motor was installed 50,000 ago and the new (not rebuilt) tranny has 85,000 on it. All receipts back up the sellers claims and match the carfax. I'm mostly interested in the drivetrain for my '97 project. Any opinions/warnings/positives u guys have concerning the jasper motor? The seller is asking $2000. Let me know what u think.

Probably still has a weak 0331 casting head despite the rebuild, and the ignition system is entirely different. The '00 will have coil packs with the distributorless ignition system instead of the tradition distributor, cap, and rotor.

These things can be swapped, but it will require more work than simply pulling one block and installing the other.

I have a new 0630 head and new ignition system for the swap. I was more concerned about the reputation of the motor. My current setup has 296,00 on it so it's time. Just didn't want to get involved if it's a junk motor.

Ah, you already know what you're doing. Much simpler for me

I've heard good things overall about Jasper reman motors, but I've also heard they're a horrible company to deal with if you do have a problem. Their 3 year warranty doesn't mean very much in the real world, based on what I've read

Should I be worried about the Crane 13 being cast even though it's made of chromoly, or should I trust that over the UCF welded steel cover?
personally I would go for a welded cover

if I decide to do a full shave on my 14 bolt, I'll go with the tmr cover. If I just go with a slight trim, which is what I'm thinking, I'm going with crane. They've been around for quite a while, and are known for their knuckles. I'd say they have the heavy duty casting game down pat.

Do XJ Dana 44 and Chrysler 8.25 share same brake parts, such as brake drums, shoes and wheel cylinders?

Anyone ever use spectra tank straps and j bolts? Going to put a Bosch pump in my 98xj and looking to replace straps and bolts while I got it down.

Thanks for any input

I'm considering buying a 99 xj for a parts jeep. Mine is a 91. If I ever need to swap motors and or transmissions will this be more hassle than it's worth? Both are aw4 and I already know I'll have to reuse the 91 electronics or use all of the 99's stuff. What else am I over looking. I tried google but was not very successful.

Would I be possible/easier to reuse the 91's obd1 stuff? If so, would the 99 motor bolt up to the 91 aw4? I read somewhere about something being different but not sure if that was good info or not. Thanks!

Yep. I threw a coat of primer and a coat of paint on it, and I had no problems. Just be careful if yours has a seams (my Comanche tank did) cause they'll be razor sharp. I sliced my hand pretty deep

Yes. The engines are basically identical, the only thing that changed on the block and head (that matter in this case) are the factory deleted the temperature sending unit at the rear of the head. I think most people just drill and tap a new hole for this. The electronics and accessories are not a straight swap between years.

The AW4 changed quite a bit electronically. But everything will bolt up just fine.
