I drive a 96 Cherokee and saw that my engine ID (which is located on the passenger side just before the distributor on the engine block) says "508mx02" directly on the engine ID plate.

What information can I interpret from that engine ID? Thanks for the help I know that this is a crowded area within the forum.
Does your engine not have the cast-in serial number like in that link I posted?

Question. My oil dipstick had a broken handle and a washer to stop it from slipping into neck. Ghetto? Yes. Long story short, when I give the throttle a quick twist to wide open, it kicks a tiny bit of smoke out. I have a decent crack in the exhaust manifold. But is that normal?
Sounds normal-ish to me. Check your CCV system - bet one of them is clogged. Even then, when you stomp on the throttle there's no vacuum to suck up the gasses so I'd expect them to go somewhere.

Replace the battery cables, they are the source of your problem. Please stop capitalizing every word, it is extremely hard to read.

Agreed. Don't skip over the obvious when performing maintenance/repairs.

Does That Make Sense?

I load my XJ down when I go camping and what not. I was thinking of getting a set when I put new stock leafs on
If you are buying new leaf springs, look for the HD heavy duty versions.
Otherwise try this; http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoMainLeaf.htm

Or this; http://go.jeep-xj.info/HowtoAirbagSuspension.htm

Thanks. The HD ones were the leafs I was looking at. I thought about air suspension I just don't know if I could justify the price right now or in the near future.

I've got this weird clunk as I start my Jeep, it feels like its coming from underneath in the middle somewhere. It only happens once while I'm starting it, and it only happens on cold starts. Any ideas what it could be? Trans mount bolts are tight

It also seemed to start when I got new exhaust, not sure if that's related.
