Thanks for the reply. I've been leaning towards calipers but wanted to rule out this part as a possible culprit. Gonna swap calipers pads and rotors today. Pads are still at 90% but having been hot from dragging i think its best to change them along with rotors.

 

Boots on pistons are intact and appear un compromised. Gotta be that fiber like piston

 

replacing the thermostat housing today. Can I replace the water pump inlet tube without removing my relatively new water pump?

here's another one: When looking for shocks why do I need to specify 4x4 or rwd?

I'm not absolutely positive but I think the old tube could be cut above the hex and a deep socket used to remove the stub (with out removing the water pump). Then screw in a 5/8" hose barb X 3/8" MNPT brass nipple (from any hardware store) and measure/use a longer piece of 5/8" rubber heater hose.

As far as shocks I'm guessing that the front ones could be of different lengths. Maybe the rears to.

 

I'm gonna venture to say that the "rwd" vs 4x4 question equals 2x4 vs 4x4 and in that case rear shocks are different on the 4x4

 

very true. The bar pins can be different and the front ones are thicker rods on 4x4

 

That's brilliant. I'll have to look into that before buying another one of these dumb tubes.

In response to the others: What are bar pins exactly? I didn't imagine anything would be different about the rear.

 

They take the same shocks?!

Shock Warehouse doesn't ask 2wd or 4wd.

On a really hot muggy day the other day, while at the JY, I was able to peel off the front emblem of an XJ. The letters are in much better shape than mine. Any suggestions on A) how to get the old ones off mine (I was thinking blow dryer and fishing line) and B) what adhesive to use to put the new-to-me ones on my Jeep?

I think this is correct for lifted jeeps. Once lifted 2wd vs 4wd would be the same. I could still be wrong but I believe in stock form they are different

 

Sites will list the overall length and compressed length of the shocks. You will want to use that plus your stock heights accordingly. If you google cherokee stock shocks, you'll find tons of info.
