the Jeep starts and runs just fine. it's just running off the battery, and power isn't getting power from the alternator. both my new and old alternator have been tested and are working properly. and as clown says below the PCM has been tested as well using a buddy's which most definitely works in his Jeep. So i've narrowed it down to a wiring/ground issue. Hopefully tomorrow my uncle can help me find the exact cause of the problem. I posted to see if anyone had an specific points or ideas to check out.

 

Just got oil analysis back and my Aluminum reading is high at 21ppm. Wondering what could be causing this? Any well known obvious things? (10w30 shell rotella t5 btw)

 

Put it this way, it's not nicknamed the "turdyfive"

 

Somewhere in the tank/fuel module etc would be my guess.

Does it do it with 1/2 tank or more?

 

Mine was doing that and I found that the fuel pump had come part inside the tank and when I'd take a curve the bottom part would swing around out of the fuel.

 

Okay,replaced alternator battery is good fuel is in the rail jeep Cherokee just turns over and over but will not start up. All I did was replace the alternator and that was it. It started before just fine.

 

How should I go about solving this clunking issue? I've got a lot of play in my steering wheel, and death wobbles from 45-50. The clunk is the real issue go me, happens at low speeds and over the majority of bumps in the road.

 

Ball joints or tie rod ends are bad sounds like

 

Am I lookin at paying out an arm and a leg for them? Also how hard is the project of swapping them out?

 

Easy with a jack and the right tools. Need to inspect them first. Have you ever greased by other them

 

Nope I got this XJ after it had been sitting for about 7 months, and I'm no jeep whiz. Working on figuring things out this winter so as soon as I get a decent day I can start going to town on it.

 

I replaced my alternator in my 1997 Cherokee now the engine turns but will not fire up. I know battery is good, Fuel rail seems okay (some gas spit out) starter is good too. All the wires seem to be intact (nothing pulled apart). It started before I replaced it. I'm stumped all I did was switch out the alternator I was told the old one was going bad. Any Ideas? Thanks


Could my coil have died out all of a sudden?

 

Plugs, wires, distributor cap ok? Test ignition coil and crankshaft position sensor

Clean up the posts and the battery clamps. Too

 

Everything was intact plugs, wires, distributor cap (probably could use tune-up) how would I check the coil?

 

Plug any plug and leave wire on, and touch to the block and have someone crank it while you hold it, see what color spark it makes
