well one is pretty much cracked in half, the rubber part that is, would a loose transmission mount also make a rattling noise when i crank it and turn it off?

Sure could. Any of the mounts being bad can cause the rattling. Front mounts make noise up fron, trans mount more towards the rear, along with the exhaust banging on the crossmember back there.

Got a floor jack and a block of wood?

I don't know your skill level so it's difficult for me to say how easy it will be for you. It's pretty easy even for a beginner though.

Look in the write-ups for something.

It posted twice. I need a new one because mine has what looks to be mold or something black inside the lense.
