This leaks.
but you can't see it because it's inside this box.
and you can't see this box because it's behind here.
If you want to be sure before you tear into it you can have someone charge the system and check the evaporator with a sniffer but I can about promise you that's where it's going.
Replace the heater core while it's all apart.

I could probably do the whole job in about 2 and half hours now that I know how it all comes apart.

That was the first time I'd done it. I'd say it took me about 2 hours to figure out how to get it all apart by myself and another hour and a half to get it back together.

As you can see in my picture I didn't disconnect any of the drivers side wiring or remove the steering wheel. I unbolted and lowered the column and then fished the HVAC box out in the provided space. If I would have had some help it would have gone faster. It was a pain trying to hold the dash up and out of the way far enough while trying to fish out the HVAC box. Then it takes another half hour to remove the 247 screws that hold the two halves of the HVAC box together...

The code probably knows what it's talking about. A bad CPS will cause no spark. No, the coil is probably fine but if you have a wad of cash you're dying to spend, go for it.

Finally figured out why my jeep wasn't starting. The dang ignition coil died. Its amazing how one little thing will kill everything. I also exchanged the old caps for a new one

From what I understand the 88 pulls apart similar except there are clips on the box not screws. The Haynes book says unbolt the steering wheel like you mentioned.

is there any way to tighten the center console ? Mine is pretty loose toward the back.
Also does anyone know of a cheap place to replace the center console latch?
Mine has been broken since I bought it
Thanks

there are two screws that hold the console to the black plastic mount inside the bottom of the console.
Latch is junk. Even new ones if you can find em.

I bet the plastic console mount is broke just like most every xj. Guy on here makes steel one. Remove console and check to see if its broke.
