XJ Ask the Question Thread
Anybody have a guess as to what is wrong with this motor? I don't know much about motors. Going to be a while before i actually tear into it but any tips on what to look for and research would be nice. Link to video

Is it ok to drive without a rear DS? I've read mixed opinions, some saying ok if you stay at low speeds. I have an SYE so the rear of the tcase is sealed/won't be losing fluid. If staying slow is a must, whats the reasoning behind it?
Tcase is an NP242, so obviously I would need to be in 4 part time for it to work.
Currently in the middle of rebuilding my rear DS and wondering if its safe to get around til I'm finished rebuilding the centering ball (which is actually a double cardan front DS repurposed for the lift).

Also, another question, my paint pen marks on the double cardan components of my DS came off when I was cleaning them (and not paying attention obviously). This means the orientation of the H and the centering ball relative to the shaft are unknown to me.
I should plan on having the DS balanced after I finish the rebuild, correct?

Yes
Right, I got that. Pull the front and put it in the rear and boom back to RWD. I just want to know, at least for educational purposes, whether or not it is ok to run FWD only. And if not, or if its only safe to drive like a granny in FWD, why that is.
Sorry for any confusion there.
