Cool. Thanks. What is the factory recommended temp? I know some like to run a lower number with the theory it will keep the engine cooler but don't think about the overall coolant temp and cycle rate etc.
Never mind, just did some internet research. Thanks.

Use 195. That's where it's designed to run.

Gotcha. 190-210 is normal operating. You want a 195 thermostat.

We don't have to worry about the heat not working good enough here. It may get down to the low 30's or even the high 20's on occasion at night. Then it warms back up. Not often we stay below 32 for 24 hours straight. It stays hot and the summers are brutal. I can see a 195 being the best bet.

Gotcha, running temp. Not t-stat.

The heater core pipe had some RTV sealant on the threads when I pulled it off. Is this necessary?

I'd actually say that's thread tape or the liquid version. That's what I used to install my new one.

It had the consistency of RTV but who knows. The PO was the City of Houston so no telling what the heck they did.

Is RTV necessary for new t-stat and water pump using new gaskets?

Cool. Thanks. Got my list ready now. New lower and upper radiator hoses, heater core hoses and pipe, 195 t-stat, new gaskets, new water pump and RTV. New serpentine belt.

When i let off the gas to slow down or coast and my transmission i guess shifts to neutral, i here a high pitched squeaking. If i touch the gas again it goes away. It does it whenever i slow down unless im going really slow. Like less that 15 or 20 mph. Any idea as to what that could be? Aw4 4x4.
