Replace your fan clutch with a ZJ clutch. Do a coolant reverse flush, and maybe wire your electric fan to a switch.

Less chance of you ending up upside down in a ditch somewhere that way.
x5000 to this. Take this not as us judging your driving abilities, but instead from our own personal experience. If i'd of had my jeep when i first got my license, it would surely be either flipped and totaled or beat all to hell.

Which gauge was screwed? Did your RPM drop?

10-30 is recommended, 5-30 is okay if it gets cold where you live.

Depends on how hot it gets there in England. If you tow, etc. Will it cause damage? No. If it snows there, I'd probably use a lighter weight. No snow, I wouldn't worry about it. I use 10/40 myself in summer and 10/30 in winter. But, I am close to the desert though and take my jeep to the desert offroad.

Thanks! The temperature here ranges from 18-75 degrees, snow is very very rare (1-3 days per year most), and I only tow our small boat very occasionally.

Is cheap oil that much worse, or is it okay to use? I know there are a lot of threads on this, but a quick general answer would be good!

Going as low as 18 F (don't you guys use celcius yet?) you really should run a 5W whatever but I have no idea if the UK manuals specify 10W40. The difference between SAE 30 and SAE 40 at operating temp is negligible and the 4.0 will run both - the issue is startup viscosity. Cheap oil works for some people just fine and not well for others, some folks have ticking and knocking on the budget Castrol oil. Important thing is don't skimp on the filter.

For the average person who doesnt tow, etc. Use it. Change it every 3,000 miles. They did a study with NY taxi drivers. Some cars had synthetic while others had cheap oil Both were changed at 3,000 and both showed same wear in motor.

Yup, we use Celsius - I just converted as I know most on here use Fahrenheit!
The manual says 10W30, but my manual is a US one!

I've already got a new filter, and it's a Mopar one.

Interesting - I had already decided to use semi-synth as it's more regularly available, and I heard full-synth can leak more (I already have a slight leak).

So once I've decided on what grade of oil, does it really matter what manufacturer I go for??

Just wondering because im at 2" of lift in the front and everyone says get rid of the factory bent sheet metal ones but all the fixed length ones i see are for 3+ and im not sude if those would push my axle too far forward and cause issues. But i dont want to spend the 130+ on adjustables either.
