Walmart everstart maxx 65s or a grouo size 94 is going to be 800+ca.

Both those batteries at about 100 after tax.

Yes that's frequently the case. Same story with an Odessy ($289) vs. Sears DieHard Platinum ($189), as well as Johnson Controls, Exide, Deka - all the real brand names make the "low end store brand" stuff.

Though, for what it's worth, with guys like Walmart sometimes the battery will be cheapened to meet a specific price target (build-to-spec, see Champion Labs making the low-end FRAM OCODs as well as higher end filters), however another trick is just by working margins, volume, and warranties.

 

Interstates are good batteries. Have you considered an alternator upgrade?

As long as it is the correct weight no it does not need to be a certain brand.
