I have suggested a starter rebuild on the forums before.Since then I have been looking myself for a web site that offers rebuild kits for a 99 4.0l starter and cant seem to find anything.
Does anybody know if a rebuild kit exists for these starters and if so can you please share with me where.

Thanks

Thanks. I'll give it shot when I get back home. this Jeep doesn't have 4 wheel drive.

That lug needs to be anchored to the metal with it's own fastener, a star washer and a generous splooge of dielectric grease too. If you clearance-bore that hole in the plastic housing then you will have the direct fastener/star-washer connection needed to anchor the ground lug securely.
So by doing a "clearance bore" you mean drill the hole in the tail light larger so that the washer for the bolt does'nt rest on the plastic but in the lug itself in addition to a star washer??

On that note, it may actually be a leftover/unused connector that should be bagged and tied-up. The cable harness would still have it but it's just not used on a 2wd. Go ahead and check for the e-brake light anyway...

Right on, I'll get to that. Though I'm only getting 0.6 ohms between the mount and the body.

We are tryin to figure out if my fuel pressure regulator is part of my horrible flat spot problem, so we had actually blocked off the vaccum to the regulator, and Nothing changed, still had the flat spot and it still ran the exact same. Shouldnt of blocking that off changed something?? and if anyone has any other ideas to the flat spot problem please let me know!

So I was able to pull the volt meter out today to double check the ohm reading on the ground plane for the cb antenna and mount. I'm getting readings of 0.5 consistently between the mount and body, mount and antenna stud, and antenna and body.

My swr meter reads about 1.9 on channel 1 and about 1.8 on channel 40. This means my antenna is too short, correct? When I make small adjustments raising the antenna 1/8" at a time there is no change in swr.

Hey am I glad I found this thread! Here's my Jeep and here's my problem...95 grand cherokee limited 5.2L. The other day it started stalling and my gf was driving it and she said she had to wait 15 minutes before she could start it again. She did this 3 times in one day. Turns out there was a hole in the rad and no coolant and the jeep was VERY low on oil....not sure why as it had oil a couple weeks ago when i checked it last. So I swapped out the rad for one with no holes in it and was pretty excited but then my battery was dead (cheap battery). So I charged the battery on 6 amps for 2 hours just to get it to start and when it started i let it idle for 4-5 minutes but when i put it in gear it stalled. Then it would only crank not start. The next day i charged the battery again and went through the same problems. I've got it now so it just bogs down in gear or after i rev it with the gas peddle but doesnt completely stall. Still can't trust it to drive it. Ive read alot about PCM being the problem but don't know where its located. Any help would be awesome!!!

Best starter I ever got was the heavy duty Napa unit. Pricey but well worth it.

Thanks for the suggestion but do you know if a rebuild kit can be had for the original starter?
