Funny you say that cuz I had one a while back and that solved it. I did tighten it, last time it was fine next morning so I guess we'll see. I was just curious why it wouldn't read a code...

Found this though...

Bout to go do that...

When changing my valve cover gasket, one of the bolts head snapped off. Would JB weld work to hold a nut on so I could remove the remainder of the bolt? I bought grade 8 replacements.

I highly doubt it.. There is a tool for extracting broken bolts tho

Alright did that. Didn't show me any codes. Just made my gauges do a light show...

Anyone know if oreilys, etc will scan codes? Autozones reader didn't work.

Just the head of the bolt snapped off. There is part of the shaft still exposed from the cylinder head. I was going to try some vise grips but I thought it might just ruin the threads and not remove the bolt.

Just grab it with some vise grips and turn it out... it'll **** up the bolts threads, but ya got new ones right?

I forgot to state it's the back bolt by the firewall. Not a lot of room to rotate the vise grips. That's why I was looking to weld a nut so I could use a deep socket.

just puts all the others in, take it to a muffler shop or a buddys house and thread a nut on, then have them tack it in place. Take it out and replace with new.

I honestly doubt jb weld will work in this situation. Its good for alot of things, but I don't think this is one of them.

Oh... this changes everything! Lol

What about two nuts? I thought there was a way to back a stud out with two nuts? Something like screw one down a lil ways, then hold it, tighten another one on top of it? Sry if that's ridiculous, but I think I heard that before.

So I should put the valve cover on to drive it to the muffler shop and then remove the cover again (to expose the shaft) to have the shop tack a nut to the bolt? Remove the bolt. Then put the cover back on again to drive away from the shop?

I've used the two nut system to keep a nut on. but without the space to use two wrenches (one to keep pressure on the top nut while the second turns the bottom nut to remove the bolt), I'm afraid a deep socket would treat it like just a big nut.
What if I JB welded the top of the two nut system?
