Okay so actually replacing my belt right now. Old one left a bunch if rubber in the grooves of pulleys like the PS pump. I hots myself a nylon brush and a pile of cleaners. Any suggestions as to which I should use?

That's a good question, I've never come across that. I would also try googling this just in case you don't get a fast response. Possibly, and only possibly, brake cleaner. But not sure if that would leave any goo for the belt to slip on cause brake cleaner is used in many things on vehicle

Internets said brake cleaner, but I'm concerned about some accidentally getting into the harmonic balancer. Though I guess thats the risk with what I wanted anyway lol. I gots me a screwdriver and scrubbed out the PS and AC pulleys... so far so good!

In related news, that knocking noise I have on startup ain't comin' from anything belt driven :'(

I would think you could as far as the bellhousing and shift linkages. However, you'll need to make sure that the input shaft spline count is the same and you're going to need the control module for the transmission as the one in your 92 will not talk to the 98.

So it seems one of the cans of brake cleaner I had is non-chlorinated and labelled "won't damage rubber components". Did a good job with a brass wire brush to get the remaining crap off of the pulleys.

I got the belt on and tightened it up. Noticed that the idler pulley was crooked (1999) so loosened it all again, and mashed on the pulley so it was straight and then tightened the bolt on the front. For the life of me I can't get it to tighten straight. No squeaks with it like that (I even sprayed water on the belt, its like 90% humidity right now) but I know the belt isn't going to wear evenly. Am I just failing or do I need to replace something behind that bracket?

Is this rod knock? Seems to be coming down low from the front. Disappears (or at least isn't noticeable) when warmed up and running for a while. Gets quieter with higher RPM. Serp belt is disconnected so it's nothing like the water or P/S pumps.

Sorry for crap video, my phone fails and wouldn't focus. About the only thing you can make out for sure is the rust lol

Faster yes, but actually quieter. That or it doesn't change volume and the engine just drowns it out.

Oh and before people jump on the flexplate bolt bandwagon, it's a 5-speed

Runs slightly rough, you can't hear it in the video. Sounds kinda like a miss and you can see the tach wobble. Pretty much all I've done to it in that regards is good tuneup hardware. Haven't done a compression test, replaced the distributor, coil, run Seafoam in the intake, or cleaned the TB etc. Until I get those crossed off unless it could be related it'd be just speculation lol

Didn't seem to be a problem when towing a UHaul full of crap, probably was about 1800 lbs back there

I'm trying to recall if a water pump is suppose to spin freely or not.
